Veal goulash seemed like the perfect late Friday night dinner to start a mid-winter Imperial weekend in Vienna and the Café Imperial delivered. The main dining room of the Imperial Hotel carries over the 19th century ambiance of the lobby while still being welcoming to travelers just in from the airport. We paired our goulash with a crème of pumpkin soup and a couple of glasses of some Austrian wines. Service was professional without hovering. The only slip up was that my companion had requested that our server hold out a chocolate raspberry mousse, that she had spotted as we walked past the pastry counter, for her. She eagerly anticipated it throughout our meal, but in the end it was gone. Boo Hoo.
