First impression: felt like family-owned restaurant and very welcoming. Service was excellent throughout duration of meal despite being packed.
Had the best beef tartar and chocolate soufflé. The beef tartar was exceptional and makes me want to return for it alone although the other menu items we had were also excellent.
Great wine list!
Tip: accepts only cash.

Unimpressive lunch menu. I was disappointed to learn that you can't order from the dinner menu at lunch time. The soup, pasta with mushrooms and melange coffee barely reached average quality. No credit cards accepted. Stinky toilet with a rarely seen communal men's urinal. Friendly waitress. You'll do much better at MINI, located a few blocks away

Off the beaten track but best lunch menu ever: cool gazpacho soup for a hot summer followed by egg-spaetzl main course all for a cool price under 8 euros. Will definitely be back!

We went to this Gathaus tonight based on the Trip Advisor reviews and we were not disappointed. We started out with a fennel-orange soup that was absolutely to die for! I've lived a long time, and I cannot remember every having a better soup. We followed with a mixed salad with sauteed chanterelles, which seems to be a Viennese specialty and it's a good one! Then, I had a Wiener shnitzel that was far better than the one I had several nights ago at Salm Brau. Again the potato salad that went with it was outrageously good. My husband had beef with crispy onions. He loved it. Wen it came time for dessert, there was no possibility. The restaurant is owned by a lovely husband and wife team and is off the beaten track in the Fifth. They take cash only and are not open on the weekends...not something I've ever heard of before for a successful restaurant. The owner explained to me that they feel that the restaurant is an expression of themselves and that having other people there serving would not work. They are open for lunch and dinner five days a week and by the time the weekend comes, they need a rest. Although it sounded from the other reviews that a reservation was absolutely necessary, we called at 7:30 on a Friday night and she said to come right over and she'd accomodate us. Run, don't walk, to this delightfully creative take on Austrian cuisine!

A little off the main tourist track you can find the best restaurant in Vienna - Woracziczky!
First some important information:
1) Reserve a table!
2) They're closed Saturday/Sunday and on public holidays :o(
3) It's a no smoking restaurant :o)

We visited the restaurant 2 evenings in the same week - both nights packed. But nonetheless it was a very hospitable atmosphere - we felt welcome already when booking the table by phone - and it only got better in the restaurant.

The kitchen is very innovative and the dishes combines local ingredients with interesting elements from far far away. You must never miss the chance to enjoy a starter - or two. And then a main course. It's all so delicious!
And they even have a good selection of wine on offer at fair prices. We fell in love with a red wine recommended by our hostess, Sir GaWein from 2011. A fullbodied Austrian blend of Zweigelt, St. Laurent and Merlot grapes from Burgenland. Perfect for a tasty meal!

We will definitely return!
