Description: This famous traditional café with its 130 year history was first opened in 1876 and at the turn of the 20th century it was a popular meeting point for leading lights in the world of art, literature, politics and science such as Arthur Schnitzler, Sigmund Freud, Peter Altenberg and Leo Trotzki. Then, like today, the legendary literature café was a meeting point for all ages, regular guests, Viennese locals and visitors. Unique architecture combined with the best coffee specialities, classic Viennese cuisine and finest home-made pastries make every visit a special experience. Daily Live Piano Music from 5pm on! Reservations are strongly recommended to avoid waiting time - upon availability. Many thanks in advance for your understanding!

You wouldn't do this every day as it is a little expensive but the ambience, service and the pastries make it worthwhile. We were there over Easter so obviously the place was in demand and there was a short queue at the door. We didn't have long to wait, before being shown to our table by the waiter. Drinks are chosen from the menu, you can go to the counter and decide which pastries you would like and then tell the waiter. I had the home made apple strudel with ice cream and it was delicious. Full meals are also available. There was no pressure to move on and there did seem to be extra seats in a side room. The interior is splendid with its vaulted ceilings and chandeliers which made a change from my usual coffee chains back home! recommended for a treat. Very special, if a little touristy.

A large super well run and efficient cafe in a classic and elegant dinning room. Fabulous selection of pastries, good but not expansive selection of savoury dishes (hot & cold), good selection of drinks etc. The service is very efficient and prompt. Don't be dissuaded by a queue out the door, down the steps and onto the pavement....as it's a large establishment the queue is fast-moving ...plan on five minutes from outside to being seating! The menu doesn't do justice to the pastries so go to the counter then note the number to tell your waiter. The "schmarrn" - broken warmed pancakes with plum sauce is plenty for two but takes 20 mins. We also had Apple strudel which was excellent.

You walk in and the feeling is like you are on a train station restaurant. But after 5 min in I realized that the place is classy. Piano musician knows just the type of music to play. Waiters are fast and courteous. Food is just out of this world. Cakes and pastries are crafted to a perfection.

We found Café Central by chance when looking for a place to have dinner. It is beautifull and the live pianno player gives ir a special vibe. We were transported to the 19 hundreds cafe in all its glory. The staff is nice and helpfull and the food is nice. Don't be mislead by the sweet looms of the Sissi cake, it is a rum bomb that will put some colour on your cheeks :)).

This used to be my favourite place to eat every time I visited Vienna. Sadly, not any more. The service is terrible, waiters ignore you and avoid eye contact until they feel it is time to serve you again. Too bad if you need anything in between! The quality of the food and the size of the portions has also dropped to a very average offering. So disappointed!
