Description: This famous traditional café with its 130 year history was first opened in 1876 and at the turn of the 20th century it was a popular meeting point for leading lights in the world of art, literature, politics and science such as Arthur Schnitzler, Sigmund Freud, Peter Altenberg and Leo Trotzki. Then, like today, the legendary literature café was a meeting point for all ages, regular guests, Viennese locals and visitors. Unique architecture combined with the best coffee specialities, classic Viennese cuisine and finest home-made pastries make every visit a special experience. Daily Live Piano Music from 5pm on! Reservations are strongly recommended to avoid waiting time - upon availability. Many thanks in advance for your understanding!

We went there one evening because it's "famous".
We were 2 and didn't have reservation, but they found a table for us right away.
The atmosphere was really nice and there was also a piano playing.
Sadly, it was too crowded, and we had to wait the waiter to get our order and again to pay the bill.
Kaiserscharm desert is fantastic - but too big for one person.

The place is really centre, a monument surrounding by monuments. Get in with a book, stay there long and watch the activity. No experience I would recommend for a group of more than 4.

Gastronomy is not the point here. The Kaiserscharm (Austrian / Bavarian pancakes) was dry with no taste.
Children disregarded it.

A beautiful location in the heart of the city. A little bit expansive but it worth. Great irish coffee!

We went to Cafe Centrale to try the coffee and apple streudel which both my husband and I adore. We decided to try all the recommended coffee houses that we could in the 4 days we were in Vienna. We tried Sacher, Cafe Mozart, and a couple of others but this was definitely the best. The ambience is nice and spacious. The streudel came with vanilla sauce and a little cream and presented beautifully. The coffes were ok. The service was efficient and polite. The toilets were spotless compared to Cafe Mozart which were adequate but I can't believe you have to pay a lady to use it! Considering your a paying customer this is a joke. Sacher service was indifferent. Waitress was the only pleasant member of staff. Streudel was average and only came with cream. The one thing I can't believe is you are ushered in from the queue to put your coats with the attendant only to be told its €1 to get your coat back. It's as good as daylight robbery! The place had nice decor but very little space per table and very close to one another. Overall I would recommend Cafe Centrale by far.

lovely old sample of imperial vienna. The style to which I would like to be accustomed. Service is typical Viennese, the food is beautifully presented and there's a pianist playing in the evening.
