We stayed at the Das Trieste on a recent trip to Vienna for a wedding. The bride had negotiated a special discounted rate for us, but we would have chosen to stay at this hotel even without the great price. The location is wonderful, just a few minutes walk from Karlsplatz and the ring road and from the Naschmarkt, which is a great place to eat lunch.
This hotel is a really lovely boutique property. The rooms are very simple and clean, without a lot of fussy furnishings. We found the beds a bit on the firm side, but I actually prefer that over the soft mattresses we often find in luxury hotels. I especially liked the clean design of the bathroom, which had nice details and fixtures and plenty of space to spread out our toiletries. The rooms don't have TVs, which some may find annoying, but we rarely watch TV on a trip like this anyway. Instead, the room had an Apple iMac. That suited us perfectly, as it allowed us to surf the internet and call our kids through Skype just like we do at home. I think you can watch TV on the computer as well.
The only meal we ate at the hotel was breakfast. It was great, with lots of fresh fruit, pastries, and fairly good eggs & bacon. The fresh juices and jams were especially good. Our best morning was spent at breakfast outside in the lovely, quiet courtyard.
We had very good service from everyone at the hotel. We had requested early check-in and were given our room at 10am upon our arrival. The front desk repeatedly made reservations and called taxis for us, and the rooms were serviced even when we left later in the afternoon. When I requested an iron & ironing board, they were brought up immediately.
My only suggestion is that if you stay during the warmer months AND you are sensitive to noise, you should probably request a room that does not open onto the courtyard. Our room was on the first floor, with windows that opened onto the courtyard. They serve food in the courtyard from 8am until quite late, and when larger parties are sitting around talking it can get pretty noisy.
I would highly recommend this property to anyone.
