Saw the Freud exhibition which was great, as was the permanent collection. Fabulous building and atmosphere. If you like the Tate you'll love this

“nice way to fill a few hours”

Lots of pianos and violons as well as lots of armoir and guns some other esoteric stuff. Did find the armoir interesting but can't imagine how hard it was too wear.

“Most Beautiful Museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2013

The location of this museum is clustered with other major attractions. The art in it is well organized and of the highest quality. There is a fantastic cafe in the middle of the building; it is open all the way to the dome of the building and provides a breathtaking view.

“Must see in Vienna, even for non art fanatics”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 25, 2013

The building alone is breathtaking (see my photos below), and the collection of art and other ancient and less ancient artefacts is mind-blowing, including European masters, ancient Egypt and Rome, and other treasures. It's not as confusing inside as you may expect, and there are many must sees (outlined on the free maps). Just wandering through the ancient Egypt section is an amazing experience, even without English explanations (there are none in this section). The current special exhibit on the art of Lucian Freud (grandson of Sigmund) running until January 12th is brilliant, taking you through his entire career and showing his influences and changes in his technique, including some video footage. If you are in town for a longer period of time grab the yearly pass for 34 euros which allows unlimited entry to 7 museums including one in Innsbruck.

“The best gallery/museum EVER!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 25, 2013

I thoroughly loved this place. I didn't want to leave. It is brilliant. Easily the best museum I have ever been to (and I've been to a few). If you're in Vienna and you don't go, you're really missing something great.
