The Vienna Art Museum is one of my favorite experiences. There is a LOT of memorable paintings....ones you've seen all your life...here. The building is elegant and creates a perfect place to stroll or sit as you tour the museum.

Great new exhibit of personal treasures of the Hapsburgs that have not been seen in years. Beautiful automatons, unbelievable gold bowl, beautiful church chalices and reliquaries.

A definite must see on any trip to Vienna. The old masters are the ones you have always seen in art history books. When there don't miss the special exhibit and the wonderful collection of 3D animated gold and silver "toys". There are excellent short videos of how they work in each room on small computers. As well there are some good pieces of majolicia pottery. Also spend some time looking at the ceilings. There are some excellent frescoes by Mucha in the main stairwell.

The restaurant has food and drink if you need a rest but the gift shop also has cold drinks at a much cheaper price if you are thirsty.

The museum was very interesting. Roman, Greek and Egyptian antiquities in beautiful galleries. Photography without flash permitted. Buy a combine ticket which includes the Nue Hofburg and the Treasury...good value at 20 euro pp
Backpackers have to checked in lockers. One euro coin fee that is returned when you pick up your things

Worth visiting, both to see the building from inside and the collection. The part with several Rembrandt's pictures was impressive!
