“Nice, but worth it?”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2006

We were booked to stay at the Meridien (ranked #4 on trip advisor!), however, they phoned to say they were over-booked, and asked if we would stay at the imperial instead.
It is a beautiful hotel, in a Fairmount hotel kind of way, i.e. super luxurious and fussy and ornate. If you like that, then you will love this place!
I found the lady at the front desk very pleasant and helpful, but I found a lot of the other staff rather on the snooty side, particularly the doormen. They seem to cater to the prada wearing, audi driving moneyed crowd, and if you don't fit that mold, you may not feel comfortable here.
I'm glad I had the chance to stay here just to experience it, but honestly, I prefer the Meridien - more my style of decor, and waaaay better beds and showers! In the end, it's just not worth the extra money you pay to stay here.

Just wanted to echo the thoughts of the reviewer from Berlin. We stayed at the Imperial for Easter weekend as well and found the staff very accomodating and the room wonderful. Will add that I returned to Vienna the following weekend and stayed at the Bristol-- the sister hotel to the Imperial and actually perferred the room and the location. But the Imperial does of course have a little more of the feel of a palace-- the Bristol has the feel of an old world 19th century grand hotel

I cannot imagine a more stately accomodation when visting Vienna: our deluxe room felt like staying in a turn of the 19th/20th century luxury Ringstrassen apartment - with all those modern ameneties. Exqusite furniture, great bed, nice view, DVD player with Dolby 5.1 speakers, evening turndown with water and chocolate, fruit basket upon arrival - you name it. They even provided some sweets as an Easter gift. Breakfast buffet including Veuve Cliquot champagne and Imperial Torte was super-expensive but delicious. Only downpoint: some guests' outfit was perhaps appropriate for riding Space Mountain, but certainly not for having breakfast and tea in those plush surroundings!

This was my best hotel experience ever, and I stayed in many best hotels in the world (such as The Lanesborough and Four Seasons in London, St Regis in New York or Plaza Athennee in Paris).

The hotel is a real palace and public areas are exceptional. If you get to the Imperial floor (lower floor) your room will be as luxury as you could imagine.

I stayed their for points and got upgrade to Imperial Suite. That was an experience. But even without that, I would enjoy the stay.

The staff is very professional there. The concierge arranged the best opera tickets for me. I ate mainly in the room to feel the luxury and privacy and the room service was a great experience as well.

The room was probably 80 sq m (including anteroom, living room, bedroom, and a very large bathroom). Each of the four rooms had huge crystal chandelier. The ceilings were probably 5.5 meters high. And the rooms were very well heated, except for the bathroom which could be warmer (the only negative I can tell). As I understand higher floors are more basic.

For that kind of luxury the rack rate I saw at Euro 1500 was not too high, but generally the hotel is one of the most expensive as well.

My strong recommendation is to stay their at least once to enjoy the palace experience.
