Owner description: The Cultural World Heritage Site of Schönbrunn Palace is Austria's most frequently visited tourist attraction. In the palace the residential and state rooms with their original furnishings and decorations convey an authentic impression of the imperial lifestyle. The park and gardens surrounding the palace make Schönbrunn in a unique synthesis of Baroque art as well as providing a convenient and highly popular recreational area for Vienna's population.

The only reason for a three star review is wholly down to the ticketing experience. We queued for 40 minutes only to get to the desk and be told that there would be a 3 hour wait to get inside the palace. We decided not to bother, but were annoyed and disappointed. We realised with hindsight that we should have booked in advance online, but I think Schloss Shonnbrunn are behaving badly in not explaining the situation to their customers in advance of queuing. This is clearly a profit- maximising mission; they know that people will spend money in the market, shop and restaurants while they wait. It is very poor customer service, though.

If you go, try to get the largest tour possible! You won't regret it. From Maria Theresia to Empress Sisi, the palace is full or wonderful things to admire. The talent of the Habsburg princess and princesses will take your breath away. There's also a restaurant which you must try out. Their cook is amazing! I take one star off because I believe that their museum shop could be a little more complete, not just a gathering place for souvenirs similar to those you can get on any corner of the Herrengasse.

I loved this experience of visiting Schoenbrunn Palace - the Christmas in front of the Palace was as good as any we visited in Vienna.
There are a lot of shops and places you can eat during the winter holidays, in the gardens of the palace is a nice coffee shop, but pretty expensive.

As soon as you reach the gates, you know this place is going to be grand. The palace was impressive from the outside, and had a little Christmas Market out the front as well as a giant Christmas Tree.

We bought the 'Grand Tour' ticket that covered about 27 rooms with an audio guide. We really enjoyed the tour, however wished we'd bought the longer tour 'Imperial Tour', as even though 27 rooms sounds long, it was only about 30-40 minutes. The gardens were lovely even in winter and there were no queues and we could just go straight in and walk around at our own pace.

Its very easy to reach via the underground, only 5 minutes walk from the station, and I think it is also a drop off point from the Sightseeing Buses.

Excellent tour (pick up the audio guide - though it does speak very fast!) and fascinating history. A beautiful building.
