Owner description: The Cultural World Heritage Site of Schönbrunn Palace is Austria's most frequently visited tourist attraction. In the palace the residential and state rooms with their original furnishings and decorations convey an authentic impression of the imperial lifestyle. The park and gardens surrounding the palace make Schönbrunn in a unique synthesis of Baroque art as well as providing a convenient and highly popular recreational area for Vienna's population.

Looking at the building from the outside you can’t tell how beautiful it is inside. Nice rooms very well kept. We took the short tour because we were short in time. The tours include a free audio guide which is really good.
The gardens are beautiful and worth a walk around, even though there are no more flowers due to the winter.

Take an audio guide which will allow you to visit at your space if you can sneak within large groups...

We visited Vienna for only one day as part of our Danube River cruise with Gate1. We did the walking tour with the ship and at St. Stephens we left the tour and made our way to Schonbrunn. An easy trip via metro (U4 at a cost of about 8 euro for both of us return). Several ticket options available upon arrival (and wish we had made our selection online in advance as there was a bit of a line up). Part of the reason we did not purchase our tickets in advance is because the visits/tickets are timed ie. you purchase a ticket for the 12:45 tour. While lining up for our ticket time we noted others who had missed their allotted time joining another later group. Bottom line - timed tickets makes for effective crowd control however should not have been a great consideration in buying our tickets online.
We opted for the "classic" tour which included a shorter palace tour, the gardens and the Gloriette. Your ticket entitles you to a free audio guide for the palace tour. You can access the grounds free and although our ticket was checked for the Palace and the gardens it was not checked before the climb to the Gloriette. The palace tour was interesting. The shorter tour entitles you to visit about 20 rooms (between 30 and 40 minutes depending whether or not you listen to the whole audio description) and the Gloriette offers wonderful views over the back of the palace.
NOTE: we stopped at an outdoor restaurant at the entrance to the zoo. We enjoyed a very pleasant meal and the waiter and general ambience made it quite memorable.

Make sure to visit the famous castle Schoenbrunn (trip price to the price of tickets is 15 per person), where you will visit as many as 40 rooms Austrian imperial family, arranged according to the taste of Maria Theresa in the eighteenth century. Walk in the park surrounding the castle and the obligatory visit to the lookout, which is located on the hill above the castle. At the entrance you will get an accurate description of what each room is, and easy to follow in many languages!

The tour through this palace was very interesting re history and art. Its never easy to get all those royal families straight but the tour helped to understand them and their roles in history. Also the palace and gardens are beautiful
