Owner description: The Cultural World Heritage Site of Schönbrunn Palace is Austria's most frequently visited tourist attraction. In the palace the residential and state rooms with their original furnishings and decorations convey an authentic impression of the imperial lifestyle. The park and gardens surrounding the palace make Schönbrunn in a unique synthesis of Baroque art as well as providing a convenient and highly popular recreational area for Vienna's population.

Very busy and queues even in winter. It does have a real sense of history but it felt like the contents were a little contrived and unauthentic. I'm not suggesting they are but that was the feeling I got.

I was recently lucky enough to be in Vienna, but only had a few hours to spend. We headed over to Schloss Schonbrunn. Since we had to catch a flight to Frankfurt, we did not tour the castle, but just walked through the garden. The grounds were well kept and lovely, even though it is winter. I highly recommend visiting and if you have time, grab a cup of coffee in the temple.

Take the Imperial Tour --get your discount card. It will save you money. There are tapes you can listen to in each room and they are well produced.

Schonbrunn Palace was family's favorite activity in Vienna. One MUST take the audio tour -- it transforms what would be just a walk through a palace into a fascinating and engaging tour through Austrian history of the 18-20th century. It really made our trip more meaningful, understanding the rich history of the beautiful Vienna.

We had not booked in advance and had not quite realised how far the palace is from the centre of Vienna. The cab ride was quite expensive but a quick and efficient method of getting there. The palace entrance was exceptionally busy and none of the automated ticket machines were operational so the queue was very long indeed. The actual ticket purchase itself was an interesting experience. Whilst waiting in the queue, we had decided on the shorter tour but when we eventually got to the ticket desk we were informed that there would be a further wait of around two hours before we could gain entry. We expressed our irritation with this situation and the gentleman behind the desk began to sort through a small pile of other tickets that had already been printed. He offered us a longer tour which we could commence immediately with a small discount. The price was acceptable so we paid up and began the tour. An audio tour guide in English was available and included in the ticket price. This proved to be invaluable and an essential requirement to get the most from the visit. The palace is opulent beyond belief and the rooms are breathtaking in their luxury and beauty. Some areas were undergoing restoration and these were just passed through without fuss. Eventually we arrived at the exit point, reisted the temptaion to buy a load of tat from the gift shop and found oursleves a taxi back to the hotel.
This palace is a must if you visit Vienna and you will not be disappointed. Happy visiting!
