Owner description: The Cultural World Heritage Site of Schönbrunn Palace is Austria's most frequently visited tourist attraction. In the palace the residential and state rooms with their original furnishings and decorations convey an authentic impression of the imperial lifestyle. The park and gardens surrounding the palace make Schönbrunn in a unique synthesis of Baroque art as well as providing a convenient and highly popular recreational area for Vienna's population.

“Lots of walking !”

We hoofed it up to the Gloriette this time around. It's quite something. There's a cafe up there, and if you can get a seat, you'll quite likely be ready for a cool beverage.
I have been on the tour and it was indeed worth it. They give you a headset, which is included with the price. I recommend it, even though I'm not much of a one for tours.

“Go Early”

an experience to see the splendor of how the very few lived; we were the first tour group in the morning (part of a Globus Tour), and it was a real benenfit to avoid the crowds that were there when we left. Many ongoing restoration projects.

“Schonbrunn Palace”

Self paced Tour is ho-hum, with the grounds being the nicest to see. However, the must see is the Cafe that is located closest to the Palace. Excellent!

“Nice but Nothing Special if You Have Seen Others”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2012

We chose the grand tour. The castle interior is pretty much in line with what you would see at other castles in Europe, nothing really stands out. We left rather unimpressed.

The grounds are nice, but again, in line with what castles of this type usually offer.

If you are new to Europe, definitely go. If you have seen a few castles already, especially a few of the more charming ones (e.g., Sanssouci), no need to put this at the top of the priority list.

“Average for a European palace”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2012

I like the history and continuity of the families that lived there. Most furnishings were exactly as left by family.
not as grand as many palaces in Europe. Gardens are lovely, every tree and bush pruned to within an inch of their lives.
We took a private horse and carriage ride through gardens which was nice, but €65 for 25 minutes!! There is a cheaper version that carries more people.
No photos allowed in palace. I really am tired of this restriction. Without flashes, no harm can be done. A trip to Europe for us is one in a lifetime and we would like to look back on photo memories.
