How can you failto be impressed by the scale of the monumental masons' art expressed here in abundance - angels, urns, busts & even nymphs adorn the headtstones.
Clearly the main reason most music fans pay pilgrimage to this cemetary is to see hte retsing place of Mozart, Schumann et al, but what really impressed me most was hte loving care lavished on humbler graves, to the extent that family members were sweeping up autumn leaves and planting annual flowers, or even clipping the grass covering grand-dad, with shears.

Don't know why anyone would want to visit the graves of people they don't know. But if you are into that, this is a good place to go. Lots of famous people, lots of well kept crypts and grave stones. Lots of benches to sit and contemplate life.

I always love how peaceful cemetery is and always fascinate with everything old & history so naturally, this was high on my list to visit in Vienna and it didn't disappoint. I know it's odd to recommend people to visit a cemetery but it's one of the rare experience you get to sit in front of Mozart or Bethoven tombstone and daydream!! :)

... to be absolutely intrigued by the Zentralfriedhof. Whether the artists' graves or the fascinating Jewish cemetary, one can spend hours and hours there reflecting about history.

checked of course the musicians graves but spent a lot of time in the Jewish part of the cemetery. I like the way nature takes over .... I guess that's how it all ends.
