Am a musician so naturally, when in Vienna, I should pay homage to the masters. The musiker section was located at Tor 2. Easily reached by the U Bahn or tram 71. Quite a way out of the city and a little off the usual tourist track but well worth it. I was overwhelmed that I was standing just a few feet away from the remains of Schubert and Beethoven. It was huge, peaceful and beautiful. You can also buy flowers outside if you wish.

In this graveyard, look for the composers section. It has the big guns buried here. Beethoven, Mozart, Strauss, Schubert etc. Also film stars like Curt Juergens. Quite a large place but don't visit in the winter time, its quite depressing.

Took a tour to Germany & Vienna & visited the site. My interest? My great, great, great grandfather and his son are buried there. A famous actor from the Imperial Court Theatre (Burgtheater) (father) and a famous sculptor (son). Carl Ludwig von Costenoble(1769-1837) and Carl Ludwig Anton Costenoble (1827-1907). The father's first wife is buried next to him (Johanne Margarethe Catharine Steinhauser). It was really a wonderful experience having only read about them in our family chronicle. Thank you for preserving the gravesites and keeping the cemetery pristine.

A bit out of the way, but not as far as I thought. And free! Vienna is fairly expensive for an American, so that's a definite plus. The draw here is the musician's area, with the Strausses, Brahms, Beethoven, Mozart, and others all right together. Schönberg and Ligeti are in adjoining sections. (Somewhere there's Falco too, and I'm mad I forgot about him!) Unless you really enjoy just wandering old graves, just run in, take your pics and run out.
