The park was very nice, peaceful and relaxing with trees and sculptures. I can imagine that it would be more beautiful in summer when everything is blossom. There was Johann Strauss in the park which you could put a coin (I can't remember how much) to hear the history information, kind of automatic guild tour I guess. The machine has many languages available. However, I didn't try it, I'm not really a fan of history :P There were few Viennese joking around the park but it was still very quiet. I have heard that it's crowded in the evening especially evening in summer.

Vienna is beautiful but be very careful: come there with a very precise and accurate “cultural plan” and don’t try to see (visit) too much in a short period of time. I understand people with such a plan who forget about it as soon as they are absorbed in myriads of masterpieces offered by Austrian capitol. But if one day you have seen too much, if you are tired, I recommend a place where you will relax and enjoy the art and history at the same time. Stadtpark (Viennese City Park). The pride of Vienna, the most delightful park with plenty of seating to relax. And plenty to see and – especially! – the photograph, because in the yeart of the Stadtpark you’ll find the most frequently photographed monument, called The Golden Strauss. The park is situated on Park Ring ( next to Schubert Ring), seven minutes walk from Staatsoper (The State Opera house). If you go there by car or even by tourist bus, park near Kursalon on Johannesgasse, right near little river Wien. The park itself is a masterpiece of old English style gardens by the great landscape painter Josef Selleny. It was open for public 150 years ago, though that long ago people did not allowed themselves beach style sunbathing. Now they do. You see on my pictures happy sunbathers and who knows may be they rest and hear the unforgettable music of Johann Strauss Jr, The King of Waltz. There are more great monuments in the park (Franz Schubert, Franz Lehár, Robert Stolz and more), but “Golden Johann” is world famous favourite. Just 50 yards from this monument Johann Strauss Jr. gave his first concert on October 15th 1868 and 53 years later Edmund Hellmer designed this marble and gilding masterpiece. It’s interesting - the gilding was partially removed in 1935 and laid on again only in half a century. Amazing work of art! Amazing place to relax next to it! And if you visit the Stadtpark in late afternoon ( about 5 – 7 PM) you won’t see a big crowd and a long line of people dreaming of a picture next to the King of waltz.
