Owner description: HAUS DER MUSIK is Vienna's modern, interactive Sound Museum. Five floors are dedicated to the fascinating world of music and sound. Test your own musical talent on the Virtual Conductor, enjoy a short version of the famous New Year's Concert, compose your own waltz with the interactive Waltz Dice Game, learn more about Mozart, Strauss or Beethoven and experiment with pitch, sounds and musical instruments. It's the only one of its kind in the world.

This is one of the things about Vienna, that makes you like the city. Not too far from the very center of the city, but in a bit remote street, there is this weird looking building. But when you get inside, it's so interesting, that you forget the time so easily.
It starts with some basic physical knowledge of sound and noise, and goes all the way to some of the most complex music instruments. And it's not just all pictures, at nearly every corner, there is some interactive and interesting device. You can make sounds, change the color of the light by changing the sound, lead an orchestra and so on.
It is simply a delight to spend a whole afternoon there.

Probably our expextations were too high but apart from some abstract sound experiences and the anatomy of the human ear, the only thing you could learn there was about famous composers. No trying instruments or similar...

On our visit, we found that the House of Music was poorly organized throughout. At both the ticket and the court check counters, there was no organized line, so customers simply came to the counter and pushed to be taken next. The exhibits suffered from the same lack of order. The staff provided no way for customers to queue for an exhibit, so customers did not take turns, but pushed to move ahead of others waiting. The exhibits are situated on several floors and, although the building has elevators (two), they are only accessible upon special request, but not for those who simply have problems with stairs. Also, the staff conducts regular tours and the tour leaders often ask other customers to leave exhibits when they find the use of those too loud. Finally, we found some of the exhibits outdated given current technology.

My 12-year old loved it, but it was way too expensive for a couple of rooms. There is a lot of lessons (pc's with touchscreen & headphones) where you learn about the way sound is made. You can choose between German & English and it's kind of interactive. There is one room acoustically perfect with examples of sounds and the interactive "conduct your own philharmonie" game, which was actually great. If you wave your stick just right, you get to see song 'till the end, otherwise the musicians starts to rebel. You can buy your "certificate" in the gift shop for 2.90€. Shop is waaay too expensive for anything else.

I'm not a museum fan but this place is so different. I think its a must see for music lovers. In the first floor they Show yearly concerts of the vienna orchestra which is amazing. the second floor was not so interesting. it had some sicentific information regarding hearing. the third floor was like a fairy tale. there is a room for each musician Beethoven, Mozart, schubert etc. They give an an audioguide for this floor (its incuded in the price) which makes the journey even better. The museum can be a bit pricey for people not interested in music, but for people like me it's certainly worth it
