“A must for musicians!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2013

We were actually in town for a Paul McCartney concert, but since my wife is a pianist, this museum was also a must-see. It didn't disappoint. They have rooms with devices that explain all the properties of sound to you, plus rooms dedicated to all the great composers (Mozart, Beethoven, Schuberts, Strauss etc.). There's also a "virtual conductor" which lets you conduct and orchestra by yourself! All in all a great & fun museum, up to modern standards.
TIP: You get 50% off the ticket price, if you visit in the evening (after 8 PM)! The museum is open until 10 PM, so you have 2 full hours to enjoy the visit.

“Education and entertainment”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2013

The Hause der Musik is Vienna's museum of music.
It is a self guided (with an audio guide) museum with lots to offer.
It is spread on several stories covering topics such as classic music history, music composition, sound recording. Throughout the museum there are interactive points at which the visitor can interact with predefined recordings of various sounds and musical compositions.

The pinnacle of the museum (IMHO) is the conductor stand. At the last floor you can become the conductor for Vienna's national Opera orchestra. You take the stand and conduct the tempo of one out of several famous compositions.

“Go after 8pm to enjoy the half price ticket”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2013

Normal admission tickets are priced at 12E. Students 9E. After 8pm, tickets are sold at half price, 6E. Would advise people to go in straight at 8 as there are loads of stuff to see and discover. The museum closes at 10pm.
On the 2nd floor, there are headphones where you can hear recorded versions of concerts such as that of the world famous Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. On the 3rd floor, there are interactive features which provide information about how sound is transmitted/ how sound in the womb is like etc. On the 4th floor, you can learn all about the famous musicians of Austria such as Mozart, Beethovan, Johan Strasse etc. Just before you exit the museum, there is this cool and fun feature that allows you to try to conduct an orchestra. You get to choose which music piece you want to conduct and the orchestra will do your bidding!

Lastly, there is free wifi at the museum.:)
