“Nice hotel - good service”
Reviewed March 3, 2014 via mobile

Great location in Vienna. Good service, though somewhat slow (i requested an additional pillow and it took 2 hours to get one). Small TV in room and very bad internet connection. AC not working properly - didnt warm the room enough and outside temperature was -2*C

Stayed November 2013, traveled with friends

hotel is really nice, in an old building, with a great atmosphere.
room was in good size for a triple, gym was great too.
breakfast was really good, and reception was really helpful.
there was a free wi fi in the rooms as well.
very good location - really good choice.

Even if it looks out of the Vienna center it is really within 10 min walk to all the historical sights.
Breakfast was excellent (although we are used to better ,or should I say more attentive service in US).There was champagne (well ,sparkling wine. But still...For breakfast...) ,salmon and Austrian sausages.
We had Maisonette ,what means two level room, so our kid was downstairs and we on some kind of loft that you have to climb by stairs. Such kind of room gives some privacy for a family. There are also bathroom on each level and TV's . Also it gives you access to free wine reception in the lobby. Minuses-top "loft" level got worse ventilation and no windows. Not a huge problem since it is basically one room but some people may dislike it. Also rooms may appreciate some renovation but I believe it is on the way.
In general-a good value in Vienna if you looking for a suit.

I stayed here in early December, and am just reading that the hotel has now been closed. I enjoyed my stay here, thought that it was reasonably priced for the rooms - even though the breakfast was completely overpriced, even for its good variety.
You could still feel the old noblesse of the hotel, and found that its name "radisson Blu" (chain name) took some of the elegance away. Is there hope that tot will have an individual name in the future. There was a bit of weariness about this hotel, but I found it rather charming, and by far less disturbing that much more expensive hotels in cities like Paris or Bordeaux.

We had a lovely time at this grand hotel. Even though it looked a bit dated and it was the last two days before the finally closed we enjoyed our stay very much. A shame this was the last night before they closed. A big thank you to all the staff for making us feel welcome!

I checked in Dec. 30th and noticed the quiet atmosphere and the employees were a little somber. I learned that this was the last night this hotel was operating and after checkout on Dec. 31st it would close. No successor is known yet and the landlords want to renovate and estimate at least 2 years before a new hotel may open. Most of the employees will loose their job. I have spent about 3000 nights in hotels in my life so far, but this was a first. I found it sad,
because it is a beautiful building. The employees were very friendly, I got a big upgrade. Yes -as some reviews note- the hotel shows some tear and wear but everything I saw was very clean and the bed was very comfy. I like the older hotels that have developed a certain patina over the years to the plastic and artificial leather in modern hotels these days. It also has a great location. According to some articles I found on the web Carlson/Rezidor did not want to pay for renovation because they do not see enough revenue to recover it. That sounds strange for one of the main tourist and convention cities in Europe. I think this type hotel does not fit into the usual Radisson style, which I call ugly, but practical and immediately forgotten.
In the evening I had a drink at the small, but wonderful bar. The waiter informed me that not
all drinks on the menu are available anymore. The piano player played 'classics' fit for the
occasion such as "Somewhere over the rainbow", "As time goes by" and of course "I did it my way". Yes, great hotels die: sometimes they fade away; sometimes greed, violence or a fire
kills them, but mostly it is simply not the right management for this type of Grand hotel.
I hope to see it come back some day and hope all the employees will find a new job soon.
