Owner description: EXPERIENCE HUNDERTWASSER UP CLOSE: Art - Achitecture - Nature - Vision Two intriguing museums experiences await the visitors at the KUNST HAUS WIEN. The Museum Hundertwasser presents the world's biggest collection of Austrian exceptional artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928 -2000): his world famous paintings, fine art prints, tapestries and architectural designs. Here you can immerse yourself in his imaginative world of art inside and out - colorful walls and uneven floors in the interior, the artistic façade with tiles and color fields on the outside. "Tree tenants" grow from the windows, plants and flowers inhabit the rooftop and inner courtyard. In Vienna's first "green museum" one can sense Hundertwasser's visionary mind and experience his ecological engagement on site. Beyond that the KUNST HAUS WIEN is Vienna's premier house for photography exhibitions: changing exhibitions introduce the biggest names of photography to a wide audience.

“Architecture meats Exhibition”
Reviewed March 12, 2014

KUnsthaus was build by Hundertwasser, a famous Austrian Architect with "gaudi-style". worhit to see. Inside you have always interesting exhibitions. And at the end you should have a coffee in the nice restaurant in the small attached house, fully decorated with folwers. Enjoy!

“Hundertwasser”
Reviewed March 6, 2014

If you don't know the work of Hundertwasser, architect, painter, protoype eco-enthusiast, then you should, and Kunsthaus Wien is the place to start.

“Highlight ... Catch the Bitesnich exhibition as well!”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

Was slightly apprehensive due to some of the negative reviews on here, but in the end was very pleased that I made the effort! The building is unique and like nothing that I had seen before.

Practicalities - it's a bit of a hike from the nearest Ubahn station (about half a mile). I recommend downloading the excellent TA Vienna City guide in your smartphone to navigate your way there and back! There may be buses running closer.

Yes, it could do with a lick of paint, but I found the slightly weathered-look actually added to its appeal. Remember - this is a block of private residencies first, a tourist attraction second. Also note that there is renovation work taking place on the building opposite which makes it hard to stand directly in front of the building and take a good photo.

The Hundertwasser museum was well-worth visiting and not expensive - but do get the audio guide. NOTE - you have to leave a form of identity as a deposit. I got away with my E111 card but would have reservations about leaving a passport. Drop your coats nearby. Cameras and video not allowed - with staff hovering to enforce it. Good shop though. Staff very helpful and friendly apart from the slightly surly man on the ticket desk - hey - give us a minute to work things out - ok?!

On the third floor there are exhibitions for which you can pay a bit extra. At the moment it is photographs by Andreas Bitesnich and it is WELL worth it. Fantastic even!

May sound odd but use the loos for the continued Hundertwasser experience ...!

There's also a great cafe selling meals and snacks ay typical Viennese prices. Carrot cake was out of this world - best cake in Vienna!

One thing - the floors are uneven and I'm not sure how easy disable access is.

In all - go. Very memorable.

“The creativity of Hundertwasser”
Reviewed February 23, 2014

A much more authentic experience than viewing Hundertwasser House with all its souvenir shops inside. If you loved Gaudi in Barcelona, then you will love Hundertwasser at Kunsthaus Wien

“Something offbeat ;) ”
Reviewed February 12, 2014 via mobile

This house really has my heart! Creative architecture from the outside nad from the inside as well - even the toilets are colorfully decorated hundertwasser-style ;). Inside you can find two nice exhibitions- 1&2. Floor - life nad work od Hundertwasser, 3&4. Floor - Linda McCartney Photography.
