Owner description: For centuries the Vienna Hofburg was the centre of the Habsburg empire. Today the palace houses three museums which afford historically authentic insights into the traditions and everyday life of the imperial court: The Imperial Apartments with their original furnishings and decoration, the Sisi Museum with its sensitive staging of the empress' life, and the Imperial Silver Collection which contains a comprehensive range of tableware and other utensils used at the imperial court.

“Set your priorities”

The Imperial Apartments, Sisi museum, treasury, Spanish Riding School, and silver/porcelain collections are all conveniently located at St. Michael's gate, which makes it tempting to think you can take them all in in a day. We were pretty tuckered out just after the silver/porcelain collection, and downright overwhelmed by the time we got to the Treasury (we tried to do all in an afternoon.) If we had it to do again, we'd do the Spanish riding school training session and Sisi museum and apartments in the a.m., break for lunch, then do the Treasury and silver/porcelain in the afternoon...Nonetheless, the collections are impeccably curated and maintained.

“Great disappointement”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2013

The palace building itself was a real gem but aside from that, great disappointment only.
The square right in front of the palace has been paved with concrete and created one of the eyeshores of the great city. It has become a huge parking space for cars.
Also of course, the palace is not open to the public as a palace but a great deal of it is now a public library. I was hoping for a great tour of the Imperial palace and everything that goes with all those riches.... unfornately, i did not inform myself well in advance.
Loved the park beyong the horrible parking space and also some other part of this Palace grounds has other nice courtyards with restaurants, etc etc.
Just for the facade of this palace, it is still worth the visit if you have time to spare. A couple of minutes would suffice.

It was the first step of our tour and we did not have time to visit interior parts which makes me regret. While we were heading stephanplatz i could not help myself to look back and stare the beauty several times.

“For the fans of Sisi”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 13, 2013

Honestly, not the greatest Palace to visit. The legend of Sisi carries this place forward but it is actually not particularly interesting from the inside. It is great to see from the outside and to get a sense of the entire history surrounding the place, but for the entrance price, this is not such a great tourist spot.
