St. Stephen's is set in the heart of the old city of Vienna amid the hustle and bustle of shops and restaurants and a busy square. Just walking around there is a treat. The Cathedral is quite beautiful both inside and out. I would definitely venture in off the street to see the beautiful interior architecture.

The carvings and frescos along with the stained glass were worth the trip. Lots of crowds. We were told to watch out for pickpockets in this area. You are distracted and a target.

I usually say something like: "A cathedral is a cathedral is a cathedral." But I can't quite put my finger on why I was so pleasantly surprised by the St. Stephen's Cathedral. Yes, it's beautiful, but so are many other cathedrals. Perhaps it's the tie to Mozart, who was married here, his children were baptised here, and his funeral was held here. The cathedral had a story to tell, perhaps that's it, but I can't really say. I'd recommend you swing by to experience it for yourself.

This is probably the most famous church in Vienna and unfortunately was in the process to be renovated, so you could not see it in all its splendour, but even so it still a great building and absolutely beautiful inside

There is building work going on outside the church which is long-term. This does not affect access. Splendit decor inside, pay for a ticket to gain better access to Alter. Well worth the cost.
