Owner description: The Spanish Riding School in Vienna is the only institution in the world which has practiced for more than 450 years and continues to cultivate classical equitation in the Renaissance tradition of the Haute Ecole - which can also be found on UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity. The performances of the horses trained by this famous equestrian school amazed audiences from all over the world.

We booked a tour of the stables, as it was too late on the day to see a show. We had a very nice guide (Anna) who knew a lot about the place and its history. The tour was very informative and we got to see the stables and the horses up close - unfortunately it isnt allowed to pet the horses, but we knew that beforehand.
All in all its a nice tour, which offers a lot of information about the spanish riding school, but unless you are very in to horses, it is a little bit too expensive, considering its just 1 hour.

Thank Jenzeman

We saw Piber meets Vienna and it was worth it. In our age of thrill-a-minute, flash-bang, laser-light shows, it was actually nice to see a more sedate, old-fashioned show rooted in a long history. The mares and fillies were the highlight. Check out YouTube for an idea of what you’ll see. You can book on their website in English. If you wait to buy tickets there, expect long lines. Warning: they start on time, so get there early!

Dear Nicolas, many thanks for the wonderful description you give us! Indeed - it as a very special atmosphere the mares and their foals are bringing into the imperial Winter Riding School. Hope to welcome you one day again, Andrea Kerssenbrock

We turned up on the day and it was explained to us that the Lipizzana horses are on their summer break but instead the brood mates and their foals were visiting.
We booked the most expensive seats in the Spanish riding school and managed to get a good discount using our City travel pass.
We were sat at ground level in sumptuous surroundings so we had a really good, close up view of the horses and carriages.
Upstairs in the cheaper area it was mainly standing and of course not so close to the action.
The show was amazing, we really enjoyed it. Professional and compared in several languages.
We were absolutely elated And so pleased that we chose the expensive seats as the horses came up to the barrier and we were able to get out of our seats and pet them.
This was AMAZING!

Dear Guest, we are happy that you had so much fun with our Lipizzaner horses from the Piber stud. It is well worth to visit the horses in their stud as well! Kind regards, Andrea Kerssenbrock

There was quite a line up to see the show/training, if you bought your tickets online you still have to go to the ticket office for real ones. Once inside it was hard to see from a lot of places because of huge pillars, also the compare was hard to hear due to bad acoustics/sound system. However it was good to watch the horses for awhile but we had seen enough after 40 minutes. Had to go as it's the last time we'll be in Vienna.

So I understand that the horses need a rest from their winter scheduled performances and for the summer there is the alternative “Piber meets Vienna” but this is just a bunch of mares and fillies galloping everywhere
