Go in the morning to see as many critters and avoid the masses. I have been to many aquariums and zoos and this was so incredibly cool. Many different floors with different animals and then an aviary type area with a huge mix of animals! Very recommended.

The first look at the concrete building is not very inviting, but please don't judge content by its cover. The inside of the building is very different.
The building is full of different animals, such as tropical birds, raptiles, fishes and much more. Every floor is suited for different types of animals and you can spend hours and hours walking through the building. The staff working at the Haus des Meeres is great. When they see you looking at some aquarium, they come to you ans explain you the sealife. They know a lot about the animals and they are where happy if you ask them questions you are interested in.
Another great thing about this builiding is its terrace. It is at the top of the building and you can walk around the roof top, which allows you wonderful view at the Vienna :-)

The aquarium is located in a rather bunker-esque building, not giving much clue to the diversity of animals housed within. The fishtanks were decently sized, with a great number of different animals such as hammerhead sharks, snakes, seaturtles, spiders, lizards, bats, monkeys, seahorses, and much more.

Don't get me wrong, the tanks are not huge in any way, so if you expect massive spectacles this is not the place for you, but if you would like to see a range of different animals, for a reasonable price then Haus de meres is a good choice, my gf loved it.

Be sure to go to the top of the building, you can go outside, and it offers a great view of vienna.

Steer clear of the cantina though, ok food and sourly staff.

Easy to find and a fun thing to see on 1 January:) from outside it looks grey and creepy but on the inside they did a great job making space for fishes, birds and reptiles. Take the elevator to the top floor ( on a clear day the terrace is the place to check out) and walk your way down exploring the zoo. Lots of snakes and fishes, the big tank with turtles and sharks was the highlight along with the tiny monkeys who check out your bag in search for treats:) our daughter enjoyed the visit a lot and although you are done within an hour it is worth seeing!

I wish we had gone here the first day we were in Vienna since we are here for 2 weeks it would have been worth it to get the Annual Pass and go several times. This is a great place for families- our kids are 5,8,&11 and they all enjoyed the exhibits. However, the down side is that it is not very big- the whole thing took us 1.5 hours. That being said I thought it was a little expensive for the one time visit. The exhibits were great and the history of the location was interesting from an adult's point of view. By far the highlight was the observation deck which on a beautiful, sunny day allowed us to see fabulous views of the city. Overall a good way to spend a few hours and the kids had a good time.
