“Loved It!”
Reviewed June 21, 2012

We recently stayed in the Sofitel Vienna Stephansdom for 2 nights. We absolutely loved it! We found it was an easy walk to all of the major attractions - however if you have any issues walking it might be a bit far. The staff were great and we loved the modern look of the hotel. We were upgraded to a jr suite and it was nice to have such a large room with incredible views. The bed was extremely comfortable, The bar/resturant on the top floor is a must. The food is spectular and the view is amazing. If you needed a taxi they were lined up out front. It was hard to find the English speaking channels on the tv. We could have asked - but it did not make that much of a difference to us since we were busy sightseeing.

We would definitely stay here again on our next trip to Vienna.

We booked one of the 'grey' rooms and and we were very impressed with our room on the 16th floor with fantastic views over the city. The room was big with a really comfortable king sized bed and a sizeable seating area and open plan bathroom with a great shower and double sinks. Plenty of storage space and all mod cons. The view was amazing. Hotel staff were very helpful in particular the head concierge, Christian who made all of our restaurant reservations juggling options to allow for the fact that many places are closed Sat and Sun.
The hotel bar and restaurant on the 18th floor - Le Loft - are well worth a visit. The view s spectacular and the ceiling and lighting used to great effect after dark. Will do a separate review in the restaurant but would recommend it. Great experience given the location and views but the food is also very good. Bar staff were friendly and good selection of cocktails.
Also has a goos gym though despite best intentions we only made it there once!
Location is ideal as hilts its jus outside the ring it s only a short walk over t bridge into the city and is in easy reach of all of the sights. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Absolutely fantastic hotel with state of the art rooms. First class service from all staff, ultimately professional. Great views from the out of this world bar at the top of this trendy hotel. Very convenient for central Vienna. Great gym facilities too. Would recommend this hotel even if you don't stay you must visit the bar it's unbelievable!

I've always considered Sofitels (right or wrong) to be glorified Holiday Inns. Thus I was very pleasantly surprised re this property: very modern boutique-type hotel done to a quality standard that far exceeds cheesy brands like W. The building itself is new, and the architectural and aesthetic contrast with very traditional Vienna could not be more stark, which is partially what makes this property so interesting. The lobby is very minimal and tasteful (service is efficient and friendly). Hallways had proper lighting. Rooms come in white, black or grey. I had an all-white room....clinical and cold, which I found terrific...extensive use of materials like corian, very nice bathroom, little touches have been well-thought through (I would have liked to see the all-black rooms...would have been interesting). The top-floor restaurant and bar is amazing....view of Vienna was fantastic, as was the aesthetic, double height and reflection from the roof outward to to the night sky - anyone staying at this property must, at a minimum, have a drink at the bar at night. Service at the restaurant was slow....but friendly. There are a few nits: a newspaper delivered to the room in the morning would have been welcome, and one could hear water flowing when (presumably) a toilet flushed in a room adjacent or one floor up. Minor stuff tho- I would definitely stay here again.

Dear guest, thank you for your wonderful comment and we are very delighted that you liked our Artwork hotel built by French architect Jean Nouvel. I want to apologize for the inconvenience with the slow service at the bar. I am also sorry that you were not asked at check in for our newspaper service that we offer our guests. We hope to welcome you again.

Although on the higher end of expense, I would say this hotel was well worth the price. Our room was super modern and chic, beautifully clean, with a wall of windows that overlooked the city, and with all the standard four star amenities available. The modern bathroom style did lend to some loss of privacy (partially see through glass walls).

The facilities of the hotel were amazing - spa services, pool, gym, really yummy restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel and the beautiful roof top lounge/restaturant (Le Loft) all just added to the overall beauty and convenience of the place.

Location was great..about a five min walk to metro and ten mins to the center of town.

I would say the most standout feature of this place was the hotel service and staff. Sadly I forget the names of the wonderful personnel, but each person we interacted with was incredibly friendly and helpful - from guiding us to wonderful restaurants in the city and a fantastic wine tasting spot (Villon!), to providing chargers for our electronics, and helping us procure transport after a missed train debacle to our next city. Overall, just amazing.

Would recommend this hotel to any and everyone!

We stayed here during a conference in Vienna. The hotel stands perfectly on the Danube. It's a minimalist design and perhaps a bit cold in character. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms have good walk in shower; a bath and nice toiletries. Flat screen with better than usual choices. Wifi is hit n miss, weak really. The views over the city are excellent, lux beds and free minibar. The aircon was faulty in ours and didn't get fixed over 4 day stay. The window designs are interesting in that they have variously sliding covers. Breakfast is very expensive and not commanding that price.

Having read such good reviews about the Sofitel Stephansdom Vienna we decided to book a five night stay.

As previously mentioned by other members this hotel is very conveniently situated - a 10min stroll takes you to Stephansdom Cathedral. Point of interest for sightseeing the city - across the bridge to the right hand side (Swedenplatz) there is a bus stop where a yellow/green bus called the Hop on, Hop off bus stops.... There are three main routes all lasting about an hour. If you pay 13 euros, you stay on the bus per route but if you pay 20 euros you can go on any of the buses around the other routes getting on and off as you please. The ticket lasts 24 hours. A great way of getting to see all the sights.

We were greeted in reception by Stephanie. After explaining the layout of the hotel she escorted us to our luxury room on the 15th floor. Once there the layout of the room was explained. There is a large flat-screen TV with HDMI USB and audio inputs available (very handy for plugging in a laptop). The screen itself is a tilt and swivel . The only disappointment that I could find was the limited choice of English channels even though there are several that are available through Sky Austria. The only English channels available were the following news channels (after a week, news became very boring to watch) - Al Jazeera, RT, BBC World, CNBC and CNN International - this did not include SKY News UK, a free to air channel easily available throughout Europe. This lack of variety was the case unless you paid for an in room movie.(on leaving this was mentioned to Volker at reception) it was the only criticism that we could make about this hotel, he was most interested in our constructive criticism and said the matter would be taken up with their satellite provider

The room itself contained a mini fridge topped up each day with mini water bottles and juice, and as well as this, there is an espresso coffee machine with additional tea making facilities Large very comfortable bed and pillows (with pillow menu), Bose radio (no CD player) lovely deep bath and semi-wet room rainforest shower. Turn-down service was excellent with the radio tuned into a local orchestral station Radio Stephansdom. Also each evening herbal tea was provided. There is a separate toilet and a sliding screen system to separate bedroom from bathroom. The bedrooms are in a minimalistic theme which we appreciated even with the lack of any carpeted area.

An interesting point to realise, there are three different layouts of rooms. Firstly the white rooms faces North looking towards Prater, the grey rooms face South towards the city and lastly the three black rooms which we were unable to view. It is a matter of personal taste but having viewed the white room it is an extremely clinical experience. We paid extra for a upgrade to a Grey luxury room and I would advise other T.A. members to do the same, larger room with a better view and more soothing to the eye. Also ask for a high floored room just to experience the view of the city

The restaurant and breakfast area is situated on the top floor. The first evening we experienced Le Loft restaurant - it is a must for anybody staying at the Hotel - the views of the Vienna at night is truly stunning but it does come at a price a two course meal with water 129 euros.

Breakfast was also truly amazing - à la cart to order and a full range of other food stations including a champagne station . Two people that really impressed us for going that little bit extra to make you feel welcome and give extra service at breakfast were Myrthe and Kurt thank you both. Stunning views of Vienna whilst eating breakfast and sipping a glass of champagne is a truly delightful way to start your day

This hotel certainly has an eye for detail, being an Accor club member, within one hour of our arrival the room doorbell rang we were given a card and delightful macaroons as a greeting, also a daily complimentary newspaper. On the second day we were contacted by guest relations to check we were happy and if there was anything else that we required and on our final evening contacted by guest relations again making sure that we had a pleasant stay and if anything else was needed. We asked for our luggage to be taken down next morning which was duly done at time requested

This was a very pleasant stay for us, when asked at reception if there was any thing else they could have Improved on, as mentioned previously a small matter of television choice was the only criticism we could make about this hotel.

I highly recommend this hotel and look forward to returning.

Room Tip: Hi floor luxury grey room
