“Local Austrian Fare - unpretentious”
Reviewed May 28, 2012

Cozy family-run restaurant. Delicious food. Pleasant atmosphere. Good and friendly service. Reasonable prices. Indoor and outdoor eating areas. This is a local eating establishment with no attempt to lure tourists.

“Cozy and friendly place!”
Reviewed December 31, 2011

I had dinner @ Spatzennnest twice in Dec. '10. They had great holiday dishes such as a pheasant schnitzel coated with almonds, and roast wild boar. Their cream of garlic soup soup is fantastic! Very friendly service, modest-looking interior. Only a few min. walk from Altstadt Hotel! Definitely the kind of "Lokal" that I remember from my student days in Wien in the 60s! Excellent traditional fare, served without trendy additions or embellishments. Worth the trip!

“nice typical viennese restaurant with local food”
Reviewed October 1, 2011

Nicely located at the foot of a beautifull baroque church, hence a nice panorama when eating on the terasse which was possible on September 30th due to the exceptionnal sunny Fall.
We had a Matches herring as a first plate (please note that portions are huge and taking half a portion was already a treat) that was excellent, followed by a red saussage that was very good though may be a little bit too rich for my cholesterol. once again the portions are huge! So if you are indulging in feeding a hord of hungry teenagers this is definitely the place to go to as you'll get huge portions of nice food at a reasonible price.
In any case a nice restaurant-not a gastronomical one but good and pleasant- with nice staff, that I would certainly recommend

“Proper, genuine Austrian food”
Reviewed August 27, 2011

Not much to add to previous reviews - lovely, simple local food in extremely generous portions. The waiter (who seemed to be covering the entire place on his own) was really efficient, and very helpful - we're English with enough German to cope, but he very sweetly gave us a guidebook featuring descriptions of Austrian food in English in case we needed any help choosing.

“Great value, huge portions, simple honest grub”
Reviewed August 20, 2010

This restaurant is in a pleasant position opposite St Ulrich's Church. We sat outside which was pleasant, and enjoyed giant portions of traditional Austrian fare. My partner had a giant pork cordon bleu for about E9 and I had the Autrian version of small gnocchi - potato dumplings with goats cheese. Neither of us could manage desert! Good, honest food and great value prices.
