Owner description: Zoo Vienna, the oldest existing zoo in the world founded in 1752. Schonbrunn Zoo was voted Europe's best in 2008, 2010 and 2012. Schonbrunn Zoo is the perfect place for a journey into the fascinating world of the animal kingdom. Open year round, it combines the highlights of the natural world with an unparalleled history as the world's oldest and Europe's best zoo. It is part of Schonbrunn as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage listed site and home to more than 700 species of animals. Marvel at the Giant pandas, tigers, orangutans, koalas and elephants, immerse yourself in the magic of the Amazon and feel the heat of a tropical rainforest in the heart of Europe. Moderated feeding sessions, guided tours and a trip aboard the panorama train turn a trip to the zoo into an unforgettable experience.

It was a beautiful December day, we were at Schonnbrun anyway, so decided to go to the zoo. The Vienna zoo claims to be the oldest in the world: there are other zoos that would probably contest that, but there are still remains of the 19th century zoo on the premises. The animal exhibits are pretty standard for modern zoos: not too many species, adequate room for them to roam. My favorite part, though, was the walk through the wooded hillside: it climbs up somewhat steeply and ends up on an elevated walkway through the trees. It ends up at an ersatz Tyrolian farm, where you can get a snack. All in all, a refreshing change from museums and culture.

It's a wonderful zoo to visit. They say it's the oldest zoo in Europe. It's huge, I loved that they close many cages in small buildings so you can easily go there in a cold time of year. We didn't see all the animals, I guess you do need a whole day for it.. We got tired after a few hours and hungry (there is a wonderful restaurant in the center of the zoo). I personally love cats so it was a joy to see tigers, leopards, lions, puma.. Also saw pandas (first time alive and not on TV), koalas.. For children it's pure paradise..Would recommend it to anyone !

I always visit the zoo when I travel abroad, but the one in Vienna was unique. There was an incredible variety in animals, and much respect to them. I and my friends had a perfect time visiting the zoo, and I believe it's something you need to see when visiting vienna.

We spent nearly 6 hours here. The zoo itself is beautiful, and the animals are happy (elephants and giant pandas are breeding here). Pay attention to the feeding times and go see - the arctic wolves, jaguars, and tigers were amazing to watch. Go to the cheese/farm area in back and get some food in their little snack area - best zoo food we've ever had, and totally reasonable prices. I can't recommend this place enough, and we were there in the cold of December!

Spent a good 2 hours in here, giving our eyes a break from the museums and palaces. the grounds and the animals appear to be very well taken care of. We could've spent an hour just watching the baby elephant walking up and down. Excellent photo opportunities here if you are not rushing.
