“Lovely zoo”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 1, 2013

We spend a lovely day here. The zoo was easy to find on public transport and was clean and pleasant. We stopped for lunch at the Emperor's Pavillion. The food was so good that it was worth a trip to the zoo for this alone! The animals were all relaxed and seemed very comfortable. I would recommend a visit here.

“Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 1, 2013

Schonbrunn Zoo continues to delight, with its 19th century base brought up to date with new enclosures. The latest being built is for polar bears. The rainforest house is my favourite with birds flying free and fruit bats hanging asleep at the top; also, the dark section where bats wheel around, you just catching the shadows as they pass.
We ate in the restaurant near the Orangutans that advertised more vegetarian dishes, our daughter being in tow. The food was very good, reasonably priced with friendly service. You need to be hungry as the portions are generous.
We arrived late morning after feeding time for many of the animals - the consequence being that we saw a lot of bundles of fur having a nap after their meal. If you want to see them awake and active, get there early!
We left from the Schonbrunn exit, which is longer to get to the U-bahn than Hietzing but takes you around the palace and its gardens. On a sunny day, this is a pleasant walk.

“Awesome Zoo.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2013

We came here on a very cold, snowy day in March. At first glance we were disappointed by the lack of animals, we assumed they were all being kept inside as they weren't used to the colder climate. But luckily any animal that is kept inside during winter has display windows into their indoor habitat, so you can still view the animals. It's a really lovely park, with a beautiful setup and some cool baroque style buildings scattered throughout. Overall, a really enjoyable way to spend a day. It's right near the schonbrunn station so very easy to access for those without a car :)

“Don't go in a week-end, all Vienna'll be there!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2013

It's actually more of a 4/5 stars place, but I visited on a busy day, so that ruined part of the experience for me.
The Zoo is nice enough (though I expected it to be bigger), but don't do the mistake of going there in a week-end or a Holiday. The number of visitors is mind-numbing. In direct connection with this, most of the animals are rightfully stressed out and tend to move as far away from the crouwds as possible, which means you might not see a lot of the nicer ones, which defeats the purpose of actually going to the zoo (who wants to see a bunch of empty-looking cages?).
If you go there, make sure to check out the penguins, monkeys and Kattas - those are the animals that seem to never shy or tire of the hordes of screaming and waving visitors.
Also, pack a bottle of water and maybe some snacks (though you can eat in a lot of places that cater to all tastes around the Tiergarten). Even if don't stay too long in one place, expect at least 2-3 hours for a visit.
I gotta say that the informations available and the directions are more than adequate. One can always get from one attraction to another quite easily, even though the place is quite sinuous.
Overall, not a bad place to visit in a sunny day :)

“Such a good zoo!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2013

It's small; the animals are beautifully cared for; there are lots and lots of them; you can really see them; you can park alright; there's a good choice of places to eat - my children and I really like this zoo!
