“Lovely way to spend a few hours”
Reviewed March 25, 2013

If you have a Vienna Card you get a €2 euro reduction in price so €13 per adult is a bargain. This is a typical city-based Zoo so it's not too big and the animals are accessible.
We visited in late March and it was cold so many of the animals were kept inside, better for them & us!
There is a large children's zoo & play area which looked to be very good so even smaller children will be amused.
We were there for only about 2 hours and only saw about half of the place, we also missed the bird houses as it was so late but this was because we spent so much time in the walk-through tropical house on the side of the hill. It's well worth the trek up the hill so you can see the barbary apes in an excellent enclosure and get a good view of the city. If you don't like bats don't go into their cave as they fly right past you - great fun!
They have 2 pandas who look really well and were sitting outside eating bamboo, the only problem with them is getting good photos through the glass!
There was a large variety of animals, some of which I hadn't see in the ZSL zoos, they all seemed well looked after and happy.
I would certainly recommend a visit in warmer weather so you can also stroll through the adjoining park.

“Oldest zoo!”
Reviewed March 20, 2013

I loved this zoo so much. It is the oldest zoo in Europe and features all of the animals you could image. Being from Canada we do not have panda bears so it was a treat to get to see them here.

“Huge variety of animals!”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

Entrance is quite pricey at €15 but it's definitely worth the money. There are so many animals to see and they're really well kept and cared for. There's even a petting zoo area when you're walking around. There was so much to see ranging from pandas to mountain goats, it's well worth a visit. We spent about 4 hours there so felt that we got our money's worth but we wouldn't recommend the Zoo Restaurant, the quality of the food isn't particularly good but the interior is lovely, would probably be perfect for drinks only!

“Up close and personal”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

The animals at the Tiergarten Schoenbrunn all looked happy and tended, and we marveled at how accessible they were. Rarely been to a zoo where we viewed the animals at such proximity, from the large cats and pandas, to the giraffes, to the monkeys. The zoo was a welcome respite for our teenage daughters from taking in all the palaces, history, and churches. It's quite large, so budget several hours if you want to take it all in, and wear comfortable shoes. There are some cute painted train-carts that look like great fun for little ones.
