Owner description: Zoo Vienna, the oldest existing zoo in the world founded in 1752. Schonbrunn Zoo was voted Europe's best in 2008, 2010 and 2012. Schonbrunn Zoo is the perfect place for a journey into the fascinating world of the animal kingdom. Open year round, it combines the highlights of the natural world with an unparalleled history as the world's oldest and Europe's best zoo. It is part of Schonbrunn as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage listed site and home to more than 700 species of animals. Marvel at the Giant pandas, tigers, orangutans, koalas and elephants, immerse yourself in the magic of the Amazon and feel the heat of a tropical rainforest in the heart of Europe. The way they built the habitats is very clever, seems very safe to animals and people while permiting great views.

Took some time watching orangutans and lunched at cafe near them. Good food and surprisingly inexpensive.

I must admit, that the zoo is not huge at all, but I appreciate the tidyness of the surrounding. Also the animals were nice, but kind of the same, s in another Zoos

Liked-The zoo is absolutely clean and well kept. Seriously the best zoo I've been to. EVER.
-There were lots of baby animals during the time I went. They usually have lots of energy which means you'll see them a lot
-SO many exhibits. I know this is normal, but you really need a full day here

Disliked-Although it's beautiful, do NOT eat at the gloriette which is located in the middle of the zoo. Service is extremely slow and they got my order wrong

I believe this is the oldest and nicest zoo in Europe and possibly the world, so you really should stop by during your trip. It's not only great for the kids, but a bit of a "time-out" from all of the history, sight-seeing, and going to the operas/concerts in Vienna

Visited the zoo last summer, and wow, what a zoo! Located in the beautiful park next to Schönbrunn Castle, and though it was packed with people (visited in July on a summer day) it was not to crowded. Lots of different animals: elephants, giraffes, lions, tigers, penguins, monkeys, birds, koalas and the beautiful giant pandas. They are now building a new polar bear exhibit. On the downside was the restaurants was not very good and not so many toilets in the area. But it is well worth a visit when you are in Vienna.

Knowing we would be in Vienna a couple of month my girlfriend and I grabbed the year pass to the zoo, such good value for multiple visits and after spending a day roaming around and seeing maybe 2/3 of the animals at best we are already looking forward to going back.

Even in winter the zoo is setup really well with a mix of indoor and outdoor exhibits.

A great tip for a winter visit is taking a trip to the Rainforest exhibit in the middle of your day to warm up a little.

We were also really impressed with the food offerings, the food in the Emperor's Pavilion was fantastic and the service was brilliant far above I've seen or would expect in any zoo.

Cant say enough about the sprawling nature of the zoo, so much to wander around and see. The only bad part of the day was when the bell rang to announce the end of the day.
