Owner description: Zoo Vienna, the oldest existing zoo in the world founded in 1752. Schonbrunn Zoo was voted Europe's best in 2008, 2010 and 2012. Schonbrunn Zoo is the perfect place for a journey into the fascinating world of the animal kingdom. Open year round, it combines the highlights of the natural world with an unparalleled history as the world's oldest and Europe's best zoo. It is part of Schonbrunn as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage listed site and home to more than 700 species of animals. Marvel at the Giant pandas, tigers, orangutans, koalas and elephants, immerse yourself in the magic of the Amazon and feel the heat of a tropical rainforest in the heart of Europe. Moderated feeding sessions, guided tours and a trip aboard the panorama train turn a trip to the zoo into an unforgettable experience.

We were living in Vienna for three months and we figured we'd go to the zoo. When we got there we realized that if we went three times during our three months it was more cost-effective to buy year-passes for the whole family (as opposed to buying individual entrance tickets each time we went). We ended up going there four or five times. Totally worth it. Even in the midst of winter this was a wonderful place for the whole family. It is one of the best zoos I've been to. It was somewhat surreal walking into a Baroque building and discovering that among the decorative scrollwork and crown moulding were sloths just hanging around. Totally cool.

it is lots of walking in between but maybe its better for animals so they dont get irritated by smelling each other?(well still it is smelly there lol) the entrance from the park on hill side is best coz you will see cutest red squirrel free living at park.
(ok l got thing for squirrels lol)
the penguins are lovely too but l wish they would have bigger swimming area.
tigers and jaguars are pretty visible behind fat glass wall so amazing..l think they just need to get some alive food coz they are born to hunt.
Panda is sitting showing back to people eating bamboo same as on pictures here..there is not much of a chance you would see it move this animal is shy and people are simpy too much for it.Coala bear is more relaxed.
at tropical house you can walk tru bats cave but do not make sound while there :D
it was cold and windy but full of parents with small children :)
if you eat there...what ever just say no to hot dog

The tiergarten is filled with animals from all parts of the world, making it the perfect destination for children (of all ages). The park is kept clean and modern, and seem to make an honest attempt at helping endangered species survive, both in captivity and the wild.

The (very reasonable) entrance fee includes a marvellous guide book, which has kept our kids entertained long after our return. We'll be sure to return.

The Austrians definitely know how to map out their zoos. And the surprise is at the top with a fine reproduction traditional farmhouse where you can rest and actually eat delicious homemade cheeses and breads. Not to be missed! Set aside about 5 hours.
