“Food overated & personnel using tricks to keep up the appearance”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

Have visited the restaurant tonight after having called in for a reservation. With the comment that they're fully booked, we're only offered a table in a smoking section, even though we kindly asked for a non-smoking one when possible. When arrived, the restaurant was half empty, but nonetheless we were offered a table close to the entrance close to the reception, in the smoking area, where we amusantly could monitor the action. After us, 3 more couples arrived without reservation, but waiters using the excuse that they were fully booked, some could fix something last minute. 2 of them even ended up in the non-smoking area. When we left at about 1h later, the restaurant was still 1/3 empty. Food was average to poor. We ate in a brasserie in the Hofburg in the day before traditional Vienna dishes and it definitely can stand the test with this restaurant. Overall, it was definitely not worthwhile to get off the beaten path for this restaurant.

“Real Viennese Cuisine”
Reviewed December 27, 2012

We really enjoyed the meal we had here. Granted, it is a little off the beaten path but it was an easy, enjoyable walk from the U.

The staff were friendly and helpful and the prices were reasonable. We tried a variety of food and there really wasn't anything that we did not like.

I'm sure there may have been some tourists there but the primary customers were definitely locals. This is an excellent choice for dinner in Vienna.

“Tucked away but worth searching for.”
Reviewed December 18, 2012

We were recommended this restaurant by our hotel as a great place to go for real Austrian food without being a tourist trap. They were spot on. It's not haute cuisine in a fancy room, but it's not trying to be. It's good honest (Austrian) food in large portions washed down with great local beers. Staff were friendly and helpful and came up with great suggestions of things to try. Nothing not to like.

We went on a Sunday night and we still had to book in advance so be warned.

“Viennese traditional food at its best - and good value too!”
Reviewed December 16, 2012 via mobile

Tried this one with group of 10 friends, attracted by high tripadvisor ratings, and frankly even a little suspicious about those. Third and last in a row of old traditional restaurants we tried over this long weekend, it definitely won the prize of #1!
In a somewhat cramped room decorated many decades ago, we had efficient brasserie-style service, a very wide choice on the menu, and full gastronomic satisfaction. Great Wienerschnitzel, wonderful game dishes, a full truffle menu aside with the standard one, generous portions and the right time interval between dishes.
Definitely one that deserves its ratings... Keep it up guys!

“What a clever concept!”
Reviewed December 1, 2012 via mobile

Looks like renovation was already overdue last century, but I am sure there was a clever mastermind either modelling it or at least keeping the status quo of post war Vienna. Back to food: it was great, cooked to the point, in time and also giving you time for small talk in between and served with a friendly smile. The special theme of the day was truffles, but I missed the wine selection to go along with and pinpoint the region where the truffles were coming from. No way that we would have run into Chinese rice wine, but I am also sure that Brunello would have been missing on this list. So if you are in the vincinity and appreciate to spend quality time with food and drinks, this your place.
