We dined here in May 2014, we were staying at the Grand Hotel at the time. The meal was good, but not excellent (we had better in Vienna) and we had to wait a very long time for our main course (> 30 min between 2 courses). I class excellent as including a certain amount of style in the presentation and imagination in the juxtaposition of flavours. I would say Le Ciel was very classically French in its menu and presentation. So a very good meal, but not spectacularly memorable.

This was our second time at this restaurant. The first time was just perfect--the food, service and timing. This time, we arrived for our 7pm and it took till 9:45 to finally receive our main dish. It was a long night as we watched others who arrived after us get served. Yes, it takes time especially having several dishes. However, the long wait even made the head waiter nervous and he graciously tried to explain and offered us a glass of wine as we waited. The food was generally good, but not outstanding this time. We had the monkfish for two and the fish was overwhelmed by the tomato vegetable sauce. Our guests had the quail dish and the portion was not large. While, another ordered the veal with lobster. He was not happy with the veal because it was too dry and lacked any taste. Perhaps, this was just an off night for the kitchen staff.

Just had an amazing meal. Wild garlic Soup ( for those of you from the UK I'm taking this as my luxury on Desert Island Discs) Baby Monkfish and for desert artichoke mousse with fresh artichoke and white chocolate. Sublime meal with fabulous wine parings, I never knew Austrian Reislings could be so good, am absolutely over the bad press from 30 years ago. Staff were lovely. The only problem is that the restaurant is slightly soulless but the fabulous food makes up for that.

Sometimes, diners are uncomfortable being the first seated in a restaurant. In our case, there were benefits to having an early reservation. Having the full attention of the very professional staff was a guilty pleasure. Even as more diners arrived, the staff remained focused on providing a great experience. Every course of our meal was fantasic and the wine recommendation was a perfect match. The surprises from the chef were wonderful and the deserts were incredible. I understand why the Le Ciel reviews are so good. They earn them. Ihirerecommend
