Stayed here for two nights in April 2009. the hotel had been open less than a year and it showed - the facilities were immaculate. The rooms are large with extra large king size beds. More American than European standards in finishings and size. The location is a little out of the old city but is only 3 or 4 stops on the metro and there is a metro stop less than 100 meters away. I thought it was excellent value for 72euro/night. Parking was 17euro a day which I thought was a bit steep - for my motorbike - but it does have a secure underground carpark. the surrounding area is being developed with some kind of convention centre so there was quite a bit of construction but nothing obtrusive.

This hotel is brand new and super clean. The room is quite large with all facilities. There is en empty frige in the room so you can put your own drinks and food in it. (there is a little "market" next to the reception where you can buy things) The breakfast is more than sufficient (hot and cold food, bread, tea, juices, etc.). The metro is 3 minutes away from the hotel (Krieau), 15 minutes from the city center and 30 minutes away from the Wien Mitte station where you can take the CAT to the airport. Staff was really friendly and helpful. We got a very good deal by booking on Octopus Travel but then you can not cumulate Marriott points. The restaurant is too expensive but since Vienna is a safe city, you can take the metro to the city center and have dinner in a restaurant.

Traveling with children in Wien may be an arduous task, especially when looking for a room able to accommodate 4 travelers. Usually, it takes an American-based hotel or a suite. Those are not cheap, so we were thrilled to come across a special on Travelocity, offering a Courtyard by Marriott room for around US $130 per night (excluding breakfast). We have seen the same room in the same hotel for about US $250 per night on Travelocity recently.

To get there, we used Vienna METRO, U2 line to the station Krieau (consider CAT-CAB option if you’re coming from the airport; for EUR24 it can be hardly beaten if there are more than three of you; for the rest of you: there is always a cab). The hotel is about 100 yards from the METRO (which here runs above ground: check it out on Google Earth). We recommend you buy one of the 24-72 hours Metro tickets if you’re planning to sight-see (downtown is about 10 mins away).

The hotel is nearly brand new, built for EURO 2008 soccer tournament. It is modern, ecologically friendly (for example, the lights come on only when detecting a movement), and follows the trend of modern hotels being built around Wien Messe (Vienna Fairgrounds area). Its modern flare is especially apparent inside and in the dining room /on-site restaurant. The rooms are larger than those of most Viennese hotels but about the size of their 3-4 star American counterparts, nothing extravagant, nothing shabby either. The staff was short but polite. There is no swimming pool. The three stars ranking felt more like 3 and ½, or 4 (if you close one eye half-way).

Internet is not free (EUR 3 per 15 mins) but during our trip, the middle one of the three computers by the elevator worked for free (a mishap that may have been fixed by now). The buffet–style breakfast is absolutely magnificent, probably one of the best we have seen on our European travels. It costs around EUR 15 per person, but is well worth every bit of it. The hotel staff does not keep track of patrons entering the dining area, so it is on you to acknowledge eating breakfast at the check-out (we recommend, of course, you do so to keep the breakfast prices down for the future—plus, stealing is not good).

The least appealing was a tobacco smoke coming from the restaurant when entering the hotel (most facilities, including restaurants, still have smoking sections or are smoking area without restrictions in Vienna, including this Courtyard). The smoke is not a problem once you leave the reception area and go to you room. We encountered no smoke odor in other parts of the hotel, including the hallways and rooms.

Overall, if the price is right (we feel around USD $160) this hotel is absolutely an excellent choice. Because of the Travelocity deal we ranked it at 5 stars, but barely, given the tobacco odor. At the current price over USD $200 per night there are hotels with better value at Wien Messe area (for example, look our review of Suitehotel Wien Messe), but we really liked this Courtyard by Marriott and would return in the future (hopefully, by then, smoking in public places will be a history in Austria and other parts of Europe).

Very good Hotel, open in May 2008.
The location is very quiet, and 3 minutes walking to U2 line (underground) and takes around 10 minutes to get to the city centre.
Breakfast was very good with large selection.
24/7 small shop is also nice for some food and beverages.
Sound isolation is perfect and there's a Fitness Club on the top floor, which I didn't use.

Negative points:
Restaurant a bit expensive for the food they provide.

Subway (U-bahn) station : Krieau, U2 line (approx 100m/yards).
Handy for the airport (20 mins by fixed-rate taxi [€33.50/€30.50 return booked in advance]; congress halls (Messe - literally across the road); Prater park a couple of hundred metres along the road; Ernst Happel Stadium.

If you want olde worlde character this isn't it. New, very clean and very slick. The staff were excellent, the rooms were immaculate and the meals were very good; an international clientele means that it lays on just about any breakfast combo you can think of.
Small 24-hr sandwich/snack/beverage 'market' at reception.

Downsides ? Building work at the OMV site next door and the site behind the hotel, although the soundproofing's excellent and it seems to stop at the weekend. It's a fair way from town (taxi to Schonbrunn : €18 plus tip; Riding School : €14 plus tip; Vienna's cabbies earn it), but close to a fast, clean, regular subway that was still running after midnight. Smoking is still allowed in some areas - common to most of Vienna I believe - and the bar and lobby were not immune. One of the three elevators was u/s and the 24-hr gym was being gutted.

Nervy types might look askance at the public housing project just beyond the Krieau subway station. If it had been in the UK/US, it'd be a bad idea, but I stayed over a weekend and there was no noise and no trouble outside even late at night, when in the UK the drunks would be in full roar. Probably helps having a police station just down the road...
