“Good Thai food though scary Thai cook”
Reviewed August 14, 2011

I was not impressed the second that I walked into this restaurant and upon telling the cook that we had a booking for 5, was reprimanded for not calling ahead to inform her that the booking number had changed from 6 to 5 (I had no idea, I didn't make the booking). Not a great way to greet a guest.

The food was solid, Thai food. Having lived in Thailand, I found it to be almost exactly what you'd get there. No frills, none of the really special Thai dishes, though I'm aware that it may be a bit difficult to source some of the ingredients in Vienna and it looks as if the place is run by two people who have to do everything. To be fair they had also just re-opened after their summer holidays but we were told that as they only have one cook it was recommended that we have what other people were having so that the cook could make them at the same time and we wouldn't have to wait as long.

Some of the meals that we would have liked to have ordered weren't available. The Paddthai was "interesting". It was quite tasty, but used thin, spaghetti instead of the traditional noodles, and didn't quite taste how Paddthai usually tastes, but was nevertheless quite tasty.

The waiter was quite nice and friendly, though stressed as he was the only waiter on and he could have tidied up his appearance a bit.

The cook came by at the end of the meal to greet us which was nice, and I almost forgave her for her rudeness at the beginning of the night.

All in all everyone enjoyed their meals, though it was very pricey for the size of the meals. It was great to have authentic, unadulterated Thai food that hadn't been changed for western tastebuds. This means that the food is very spicy for most people, but it's worth the sweat for the taste. I tentatively recommend this place-the food is very good, the cook tempestuous but refreshingly upfront, the waiter nice but stressed (but understandably so) the decor that tacky Thai-style that I really miss from Thailand.

“Good food & Friendly service”
Reviewed April 25, 2011

We reserved in advance and can only write good things about our experience. Good, authentic Thai food, a good choice available on the menu, and also lots of attention from all the staff, so no problems with waiting. About the only negative comment would be that there is no Thai music playing, this would improve the atmosphere, but otherwise we would recommend this restaurant for good, tasty Thai food. We would certainly go back there again.

“Don't laugh too loudly”
Reviewed April 9, 2011

We went to eat here last night as we had heard some good things about it but were so annoyed and upset that we will definitely not be going back. Firstly, we got there around 8.30pm on a Friday night and was told that the kitchen was closing at 9pm so only one dish was available (a Thai curry) although it is obviously really weird to be not shown a menu and told only one dish is avaialble but also who closes their restaurant at 9pm on a Friday night! Anyway we took a chance sat down an ordered a beer from the very helpful and friendly waiter/owner. We were happily chatting away and having a strange but pleasant time when the Thai lady cook came over and told us not to laugh so loudly as there was a baby asleep upstairs! This really annoyed usnand made us feel completely uncomfortable for the rest of the time we were there. We weren't even laughing that loudly and we being drowned out by a very loud extractor fan and the Thai lady cook bashing about with her wok! When the food arrived it was very good, but for us the evening was already ruined, also when we got the bill the price was very high, over 30 euros for 2 Thai currys and 2 beers. In summary the food was delicious, the waiter/owner guy was extremely friendly and helpful but we definitely will not go back as we were made to feel like there were restrictions on actually being able to enjoy ourselves.

“Some of the best Thai food you will ever eat.”
Reviewed December 17, 2010

This restaurant is a jewel. A meal here is more like eating at your favorite aunt's -- assuming your aunt is a sensational cook. There are only 4 tables so be sure to make a reservation. The Chef/owner uses authentic Thai ingredients including pea aubergines, fresh kaffir lime leaves, fresh Thai basil, etc. Her preparation is superb - fresh, tasty, Thai home cooking with the added bonus that you can watch the chef prepare the food. She is absolutely terrific and her associate is a gracious server. You can specify "hot" or "Thai hot," which is the real deal. If you are a foodie and if you like Thai food you should not miss this one-of-a-kind restaurant. Your visit will be memorable.

“Best Thai food in Vienna”
Reviewed September 30, 2010

Believe me, it is the most authentic Thai Restaurant in Vienna! Since I've been there, I can't go to any other "Thai" in Vienna - they all are nothing compared to Sri!
Sri uses fresh ingredients (makes it a little more expensive than other Thai restaurants, but it is soooooo worth it) like the little pea-like aubergines/eggplants Thai basil, etc.
The curry paste (red/green) is homemade, so it can happen, that she is out of e.g. the green curry by 8 pm.
It is not definite, that you can get everything on the menu. Sometimes she offers fresh Som Tam (Green Papaya Salad), sometimes she doesn't. Don't be angry, if you don't get, what you want, it's just the way it is, and that makes it even more authentic.
The restaurant is tiny, seats about 10-12 guests, so it is recommended to call in advance, to make a reservation.
There is a take-away menu online, so you can call to order your food to pick it up.
Attention: you can't change the amount of chili she puts into the dishes! E.g. the green curry is pretty hot (excellent for me, but not for everyone).
Children are not allowed (reason: open kitchen - dangerous).
Enjoy!
