Ate a tour group meal here and service and meal was very good. Atmosphere was nice, group had a fairly large side room to ourselves. Would recommend for a return visit.

One of the highlights of our trip to Vienna! This is a national treasure, the oldest restaurant ... Dates from 1440! Mozart, Beethoven and many famous artists have dined there! Ask for a tour to the room where they left their signatures :). The food was very nice and our waiter a real charm!

Having booked online after a recommendation from a close friend who has visited Vienna many times, we finally arrived at this quaint and historically fascinating restaurant in the heart of old Vienna just off Fleischmarkt. We received a friendly greeting after a very short queue (some folks who had clearly not booked were turned away in a pleasant manner) and when we explained that we had a booking we were quickly identified and ushered in. The Griechenbeisel is a wonderful old building, steeped in history, and on the way to our table, quickly laid because they were extremely busy, we passed an older gentleman playing a zither. It was a beautiful and evocative sound, clear but not too loud and we were able to chat easily. Although busy, the table was not cramped and we were soon invited to order, the menu being in several languages. We had three courses although we shared the dessert because by that time we were replete. The food was generous in quantity, well presented and delicious. It was not the "picture on a plate" cuisine that we were to experience in other restaurants and it suited us really well. It was far more representative of real German cooking and we thoroughly appreciated it. We don't drink alcohol so enjoyed some delicious fruit jiuce with our meal. The wine list looked as if it would add a considerable premium to the overall cost of the meal.
We can reccomend this restaurant without reservation, although you'll need to book if you want to be sure of a table.

We choose this restaurant from many alternatives and after a contact with the management. The 7 course dinner on new years eve was nothing but perfect. Tables where festively decorated and the service excellent. The restaurant have different kind of dining rooms for you to choose from. Location is very close to the Stephansdom.

Right in the centre, a real tourist trap. Looks nice from the outside, but the menu is rather limited and the prices are high. There are many other better options around. isappointed.
