Nicely appointed hotel stayed in room 27 which is a small single. Thankfully the décor was tasteful and quite new. rather noisy with the window open. If you are arriving by car the entrance street is VERY narrow and parking spaces are not plentiful. Restaurant food was excellent. Staff were excellent and spoke very good English.

Room Tip: 3rd floor was very hot A/C non existent By European standards a nice hotel though

We have stayed at the Hotel Alpenrose probably 20 times since the 1960s. It was a traditional, charming, Austrian-themed (kind of Sound of Music) hotel, with the best location in town (and it is a town worth seeing with a nearby walk to the castle that towers over Feldkirch, and the cobblestoned streets of the 1000-year-old city, mostly devoid of cars). The breakfast is excellent, the restaurant one of the best in town, the rooms large and comfortable (forget air conditioning, a rarity in this part of Europe, although we could have used it during our stay). The decor has been Biedermeyer furniture, carpeted rooms and public areas, and a color scheme of rose.

Now the owners have decided to transform the hotel into one appealing to younger adults (or at least so they hope). The hotel's name has changed to "Gutwinski" (after the longtime owners), painted white instead of rose, and the rooms remodeled. Our room was certainly functional, but one wall was painted black, the bath is hard and crisp in decor, and most of the traditional furniture is gone.

The food is still good; the location is still excellent, but not much distinguishes it any longer from the larger Best Western a block away. It is still a good hotel, but we won't stay there in the future as there are other traditional hotels in town that retain an older Austrian charm.

Room Tip: In every room you will want to open the windows in summer and every room is thus noisy from outside...

it is an average hotel, with old fashioned and not comfortable rooms.
Definitely a non 4 stars hotel, despite tha high price (especialy the prices of the mini bar).

the stuff is polite, the internet connection is slow.
the location is good, but the access is throufh a very narrow small street..

overall, i would not recommend it.

Cant really fault the Alpenrose. Nicely appointed rooms, friendly staff, good breakfast and a beautiful location in a picturesque town.
Good value for money as well.
Be warned though, the access road is incredibly narrow - I was in a normal sized estate car, and it was very, very tight. Wouldnt fancy it in ice!

My husband stays at Alpenrose every time he visits University of Lichtenstein and this year I joined him for a few days. Feldkirc is a beautiful small town, charm enhanced during Christmas time when the streets are filled with stands selling everything for the coming holidays wrapped in a scent of glogg. You can almost not wait till Christmas.
The hotel is nice and elegant. Rooms are decorated with an elegant mix of original period furniture and modern appliances. Everything is impecably clean. There is even an elevator, so you should not worry about carring suitcases up the stairs.
There area few things I was slightly dissapointed of :
The breakfast is quite plain , with bread from supermarket and sliced cheese that stick to each other, there are several bakeries around, it would be such a nice touch to get fresh bread and pastries in the morning.Orange juice was so diluted with water that it hardly resembled orange juice.
We had dinner in the restaurant couple of times and this is highly recommended, the standard is few steps higher.
There is only generic, all-in-one wash liquid in the bathrom, with a plastic holder fixed on the wall. You may consider taking your own cosmetics.
And the TV - it offers 30 plus channels, all in German. Not even the classical BBC and CNN that all hotels offer. Minor detail, though on a longer stay you can feel a bit isolated from the outside world. Wifi is free of charge, so you can compensate on this.
Alltogether we are happy with the hotel and will most likely choose the same next year.

We stayed a night at the Alpenrose whilst in transit from Italy to Germany. Feldkirch with its historical buildings is a friendly small town, no doubt a wealthy town as well, located right next to the Lichtenstein border. The A;lpenrose was booked for us by my local business contact, and it was a totally pleasant experience. The hotel is listed as a 4-star product , and it truly is 4star.

Rooms are elegantly modern but not cold, wifi was free of charge, the front desk person was a bit gruffy during our late check-in but the morning staff made up for it. Typical for Austria and Germany, the double bed featured two single mattresses. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant and we were not disappointed ..in fact it was a 4star meal with a bottle of great local red wine. The Alpenrose is an asset to Feldkirch.
By the way, the previous reviewer from the US feigned surprise to find such a quality hotel in such a small town ..well small it may be ..but the hotel building was there before the North American continent was settled by AngloSaxons, this is old Europe and not some hick town in the US. Another US reviewer actually mentioned that they went for a Doner Kebab for dinner ..how tacky is that - you stay in a 4star hotel and then eat at a low-class Turkish joint whilst there are plenty of restaurants and cafes with fresh and good Austrian food to choose from, rather than kebab made up from meat left-overs.

Coming back to the Alpenrose ..we opted to have breakfast just round the corner in the pedestrian precinct ..it was Saturday morning and market day ..we sat at Cafe Rauch, had a great late breakfast and watched the market activities ..good start to a nice day.

Alpenrose was a real surprise, as was Feldkirch. We picked the location because it was a convenient stop on our planned itinerary, but were very plesasntly surprised. The hotel is in an old building the the center of a beautifully restored town from the 1500s. The staff was extremely helpful, although the restaurant which I was looking forward to trying based on the reviews was closed the night we stayed. The rooms were amazing. They appeared to have been professionally decorated and looked like something from a design magazine. Everything was new, modern and spotless. One thing to consider is while our room had huge windows which opened above the terrace, I don't think it had airconditioning, so it might have been a little stuffy in the summer. Breakfast was excellent. The town itself has lots of restaurants of all sorts and prices, so while we missed out on the Alpenrose's own restaurant, we had no problem finding another place for dinner. The historical buildings of the town are also worth exploration.
