“Great views”

This is a really good museum but you REALLY do need a guide to fully explain things otherwise it might be really boring if you don't know what you're looking at and will not understand it's significance in Austria's history

“A real castle to walk through!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2013

This is the real deal - a 900 year old castle in great condition. The museum is worth the small price to pay to walk through history and see how people lived hundreds of years ago. There is a cafe in the courtyard that does not require a fee, but pay the fee and enjoy the castle and keep. This alone is worth the trip to Feldkirch (among many other things).

“Small but satisfying”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2013

No one should visit Feldkirch without visiting the Schattenburg, the castle that towers over the city. Even the restaurant there is famed for its enormous 30cm wiener schnitzel. The museum was always interesting, what with climbing up and down and through the various rooms, but a recent renovation has made it excellent.

It is small, and limited in what it displays, but it has high quality exhibits, close enough to touch (not behind glass), and nicely placed in the rooms. I would go there before or after lunch (it closes at noon for a couple of hours) and take in the schnitzel in the dining area. Of course, it has great views of the countryside as well.

“Nice folk craft museum”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2013 via mobile

The museum is housed in an old castle that dominates the town.
The tower offers a nice view over the surroundings and 2 rooms with old rifles and other weapons. Other rooms display old furniture and some church icons and sculptures. I liked the children room.
