what a wonderful setting, very friendly staff and superb food, we stayed at this lovely hotel for a wedding which was held at the top of a mountain, the wedding breakfast was held here followed by the best ever reggae band Riddim Posse the staff were so adaptable as we completely took over the hotel and nothing was too much for them we stayed three nights and the service never waivered once.

Room Tip: all rooms are good with lovely mountain views

just got back from a wedding party in kitzbuhel, we stayed at this lovely hotel and we were really well looked after. The rooms where very clean and comfortable with delightful views. The service was impeccable and nothing was too much trouble, all the staff we extremely friendly and helpful as where the owners.
We ate several meals at the hotel and the food was outstanding while the restaurant was always busy proving that the locals agree.
This is a must for all snitzel fans out there!!
Looking forward to another visit.

We only had a meal here - a fantastic meal! If that is anything to go by then as a hotel it should be fabulous. A short ride out of town (10euro taxi ride) and just of a main bus route it has to be a good option for a quiet holiday. The food was traditional and excellent.

Keeping in mind that this is only a 3* hotel, we really enjoyed our stay. We booked last minute and this was one of the only options, but we were happy with the hotel. We were warmly welcomed by the staff, particularly Neils. The location was a 5-min drive away from the ski hill. The staff directed us to the best park freely for skiing, they also make a great restaurant recommendation. The hotel has a heated room for storing skis and boots. The hotel restaurant is very good, and we ate there three times. Our room was basic, but we weren't there to spend time in our room. It was much more pleasant to be at the hotel's bar, restaurant, lobby or on the terrace. Breakfast is simple and good, filling enough for a day of skiing. The hotel organized a babysitter for us, and she was super and we were very comfortable leaving our baby with her.

Kitzbuhel has become a resort for old and russians, so better avoided at all (St Anton is a fantastic alternative if you could not afford Swiss Alps).

A traditional family run austrian chalet, booked last minute with no other options available in Kitzbuhel.

The restaurant is great, always packed and the food is delicious - one of the places to eat out in the city, not to be missed!

The "hotel" part is very basic, with no separate check-in area (actually, I had to wait 15 minutes before a busy (serving restaurant guests) hostess was able to give me the keys when arrived) , no lounge area, no sauna, NO internet in rooms far from the staircase to 2-3 floor. The room is tiny, with small LCD TV with limited choice of international TV channels, but with little balcony. The maid didn't made our room on one occassion though we said to her to come over on hour later.

The family + restaurant personnel are working hard, 7 days a week, 7 to 11 on holiday season, but the restaurant is obvious priority (and cash cow) for them.

Two clear cons -(a) the distance from Kitzbuhel centre with sporadic bus service with only alternative possible a taxi, (b) smokers' friendly place (with separated non-smoking section in restaurants) - could be a problem if you mind.

Absolutely recommended for a dinner, to be avoided as a hotel (though might be OK if you are price-sensitive, 100-150 EUR only a night in high season).

We stayed here as part of a package ski holiday in March 2010. We were the only English people in the hotel (not a bad thing) and the hotel seemed popular with all sorts of independent travellers.
Everything is very wooden - the hotel is nice downstairs and all the rooms very wooden with nice balconies. Our room was in great condition and seemed newly renovated.
We were half board - I thought the food was quite good (soup, salad bar, meaty type of main with veggie option, desert) but my girlfriend was less keen. After a day of skiing I found it very hearty. They do have a (apparently well-regarded) a la carte restaurant which was busy at the weekend. Breakfast was really good - traditional Austrian with cheese, ham, etc,, plus also jam, cereal etc..
Other reviews have mentioned that it can be smoky - this is true, as it seems there is a lot of smoking going on, which seems wierd to me now! The dining room was non-smoking though so it didn't ruin mealtimes.
Location is quite out of town - about 40 minutes walk, and definitely not do-able in ski boots. There IS a ski bus (although we found this very difficult to find out - the bus information in the town in shaky, and tourist information didn't know it existed) about 2 minutes walk down a steep hill. Buses stop about 6.30pm though, so after that you're pretty much cut off unless you take taxis. It's in a residential area, so there's nowhere to go. As such, it is good if you don't particularly want to go out after skiing (us!) or if you have a car it would be fantastic.
Overall, enjoyed our stay here - shame about how far it is from the town, the lifts, etc..

Stayed at the Vordergrub hotel during March 2008, we had a nice room, though no english tv, with plenty of space for ourselves and our three year old daughter.
Small balcony which was communal, with limited view of mountains, although not bad at all.
Food - very good quality, attentive service, we were impressed with the helpfulness towards children/highchair/ cold plates for children etc.
Only negative point to mention would be the distance from Kitzbuhel centre which needs planning to avoid missing last bus back to hotel othewise you will incur a taxi cost or a reasonably long walk back. (40 minutes)
Not ideal for people looking for nightlife, but as we had a young child this was not an issue.

We arrived by train, and were picked up from the train station by a member of staff . - which was a nice touch.

  • Liked — Traditionally Austrian, NO ENGLISH LOUTS to spoil it all.
  • Disliked — location was nice but distant from centre of town.
