I have stayed in many of the best hotels in the world... & this ranks right up there. We stayed to ski, but as an indication of how good it is, many people were here, just to enjoy the hotel, its food & amenities. I would imagine it is equally fantastic for walkers.
The bedroom was fantastic - large bed, desk, big wardrobe area, safe & lovely modern bathroom with fabulous shower which was always hot & powerful (above bath, which filled quickly on the one occasion we used it!). Hairdryer & good shower gel/shampoo/body lotion freebies. Fruit & pillow chocolate on first day. Wall mounted flat-screen TV with 100 channels including usual English speaking channels (BBC World News).
The highlight is probably the food... & you cannot fail to put on weight, even on an active skiing holiday. Breakfast is free seating buffet - cereals, juices, fruit, sausages/bacon/fried veg/scrambled egg, lots of different breads, meats/cheeses, preserves, amazing tea selection, sparkling wine, sweet breads/cakes, smoked salmon & fish stuff. Coffee/hot chocolate served at your table. Best of all is that breakfast is served until 10.30am!
For dinner, you sit at the same table, for an amazing six course extravaganza - you choose at the table from a choice of two starters, two soups, then a fantastic choice free salad buffet, three main courses (one veg), two desserts, then the most incredible cheese board buffet - maybe 20-30 different soft & hard cheeses with bread, fruit & chutneys. And the quality/presentation is superb - 5 star restaurant quality (see pictures attached). Plus the added touches - like a different house red or white wine each day - for c.20-35 euro a bottle. You can have dinner anytime from 6.30pm until 9.00pm & do not miss out no matter what time you choose to eat. In the evening, there is also a pianist/jazz group/table magician, which added to the ambience.
The staff are fantastic & cannot do enough to help. All speak English (to some degree) - at the table, in the bar, at reception.
One great highlight is there is free wifi downstairs, so after a drink before dinner, or during meal (I am afraid), you can access Facebook or your email! Does not work in bedroom though.
Fellow guests are largely continental European - a few English, but not dominating in any way. I would say that most guests are middle-aged and "upper class". You absolutely do not need to dress for dinner, but many people do.
The spa is also amazing - on the top (7th) floor - huge pool - sauna and steam room (NB the latter two are nudist!)
Drinks in the bar were expensive, but less than an equivalent London hotel (£5 beer; £7 g&t)
The only potential downside is the distance to town/slopes... but there is a free shuttle every 30 mins (until 6pm) which worked brilliant for us - 5 minutes - and never caused us a problem the whole week. We tended to not go out in the evenings, but if you did, it is easy to get a taxi back.
My only minor gripe was that there are no tea/coffee facilities in the room & if you want a coffee after dinner, you have to pay for it (although free at breakfast).
All in all - thoroughly recommended...
