We went up around 1030am. We didn't have to stand in line, the gondola to the top cost about 25€. Great view. Tourists should note, it is super slippery when there is snow. Wear hiking boots. Amazing how many underprepared people were up there sliding and falling in dress boots. Most of the hiking trails from the top were already closed which was disappointing but due to snow so couldn't be helped. We took the gondola down to the mid mountain stop and hiked down into town from there. It was a bit treacherous and took about 3 hours but very fun and picturesque. We stopped at the Innsbruck christkindlmarkt afterwards which was really fun. I enjoyed my Gluwine and commemorative cup as well as the great atmosphere with all the Christmas lights.

We went up on a Sunday morning (9am) and it was clearly the time to go. Cable cars weren't packed and we didn't have to wait. Once at the top, it was breathtaking. Take the time and bring the footwear to walk up the extra distance. Only a few of us up there on a Sunday morning so it was extremely peaceful. Don't forget to have a beer out on the overlook at the second stop. You will never forget that moment.

Great view on the way up the mountain or even just to the Alpenzoo. The facilities are brand new and the service regular.

I liked a lot the view from top on Innsbruck. I suggest to do it only if day is sunny. We were told that there was a Christmas market up there but that is very very small compared with the ones in the city center... so go for the view but don't go just for visiting the markets.
