A highlight of Innsbruck's main pedestrian plaza is this highly recognizable feature. The area is full of interesting shops and restaurants.

I guess I just don't quite get the big fuss over the Golden Roof. It was pretty and very golden but other than being a good spot for identifying your directions, not really a big deal.

We were walking around in the picturesque old Town, came across an old building with golden roof, wondered whether it is real gold?. We read the inscription, telling its history.
The building is the new court, the residence of Duke Friedrich 4. He used to be with the empty pockets and the 'rich in coins'. This splendid late Gothic window roof was covered with 2657 fire copper tiles, commissioned by the Emperor Maximilian 1(1459-1519) to commemorate his wedding to Bianca Maria Sforza of Milan.
It was a nice place to see, while leisurely walk-in in the old Town. There is nothing to see inside the building.

You can not miss this if you are in Innsbruck. It is in the heart of the old town and will draw your attention no matter what. Beautiful sight and really important historically as it was used for commencing and viewing important ceremonies and events. If you are not a history buff, you can skip going inside the building as you only get to see the museum and a restricted view from the platform, adding the pic of same... It is much better sight from outside.. Not demeaning it as I think it is the highlight of the most beautiful street in Europe

The beautiful golden roof is visible from the outside and you can admire it better from the outside than from the inside. Obviously inside is amply described the history of the house and it is worth thinking a tour for admire it from another point of view and to know also the details.
