“Fantastic location, rooms a bit cramped”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2009

This hotel has incredible history - as the list of past guests outside the hotel and outside each room would suggest. The location is fantastic - by the river and next to all the important sights. In fact - the hotel itself is on Lonely Planet's walking tour as a landmark! It is great value for money (we paid Euro 119/night for a dbl room in the first week of Oct incl free wifi internet and breakfast for 2). The breakfast has standard fare and we felt the rooms were a bit cramped and the ceilings a bit low. All in all we would stay here for the fantastic location, value for money and old world charm.

This was the last place we stayed out of 3 places we stayed in Europe. We also visited Munich and Prague and of the hotels we stayed at this was our favorite

There were 4 of us: Myself, my wife, and 2 friends.

Location: Right in the middle of it all. The location could not have been better. It is just steps from the Golden Roof and all the major Innsbruck attractions. There are multiple restaurants, cafes, pizza shops, gelato shops, and bakeries all within steps of the front door. There is a ATM and a small grocery store right across the street too. It is the place to be. It was only about a 6 Euro cab ride from the main train station

Check-in and check-out went smoothly and quickly. The front desk people always greeted with a smile and hello. If you needed any assistance they were glad to help. Overall, a great staff.

Rooms: We had 2 rooms on the 4th floor right next door to each other. Both rooms were exactly the same. They were absolutely spotless. The 2 small windows in the rooms were almost like skylights, they just popped open a few inches and they were mounted on a slant. The decor was modern with a flat screen TV and they used the space wisely since the rooms were on the small size. Nice touches were the radio in the bathroom and the rain showerhead directly overhead in the shower. These rooms also had a air conditioner which was nice since these rooms didn't get much ventilation by the small windows mentioned above. I loved how historic the building was but yet it has been updated with all of today's modern conveniences.

Only 2 small complaints:
1. The bed was hard as a rock. The sheets were nice but you might as well have been sleeping on the floor in terms of its softness. Although it was hard I did sleep better here than the other 2 places we had stayed.
2. The bathroom door and half the wall to the bathroom is all glass with just a 4-5 ft section frosted. Although you can't see much other than someone's feet my wife and our friend didn't like it. They said they would be very uncomfortable if they were with someone they weren't close to. Too me it wasn't a big deal at all. Same with the shower, it is all clear glass but they would of preferred if that was frosted too.

We only made it to one breakfast but it was pretty nice for it to be included. They had scrambled eggs and sausage for hot items. Then they had the usual cold cuts, cheese, breads, yogurt, juice, coffee, tea, etc

We did not try dinner here

Overall I would highly recommend this hotel. Fantastic location, extremely clean modern rooms, at a decent price. The few Euros more we paid to stay here was one better decisions we made during our trip.

The rooms are amazing - only missing aircon but there is a fan. They are spacious with all that you would need and a radio in the bathroom - this was a major plus for me! The hotel in right in the middle of the old town so you can't get a better location to experience the town. The one downside to our stay was the unfriendly and unhelpful restaurant staff who made our dinner experience unpleasant. Otherwise this hotel is well worth a stay.

We stayed at the Goldener Adler for one night during our two-week trip to Europe and it was one of our favorite hotels on the trip. The location cannot be beat -- right in the heart of the pedestrian area of the old city. Our room was surprisingly large and modern given the age of the building, and the staff was helpful -- holding our bags for us all day after we checked out before our night train to Rome. We enjoyed the free breakfast, and though we didn't eat there, the outdoor cafe was popular.

I met an unfortunate accident in the Stubai mountains in Austria, badly spraining my ankle. We were not booked into to the hotel but were able to get a very large room for 4 days. The room was beautifully furnished, had free high speed Internet and a english sky movie channel, necessities when laid up in bed. Nothing was too much trouble as my husband got ice several time a day. Staff were genuinely concerned and congratulated me when I made it out of the room. There was a great inexpensive Italian restaurant next door that did take way pizza. While not the cheapest room in Innsbruck if you need some space and TLC after hiking this is the place.

Hotel is very nice although old, they maintain it's charms while trying to stay modern, like the wired hi speed internet. Rooms are a bit small but standard for Europe. Hotel location is perfect, no car required, actually, if you bring a car, parking is about 200 meters away and 13Euro/nt. Ate at the hotel restaurant for dinner, very good and not too expensive, I would recommend it. It was raining and the second floor of the restaurant was air conditioned and we had it all to ourselves. The breakfast buffet was good but they were a little slow replacing things that had run out. Overall, I would def. stay there again.
