Owner description: Austria's highest mountain and centrepiece of the High Tauern National Park You can approach the Grossglockner in many different ways: it is the highest mountain of the Alpine Republic, one of the most striking elevations in the Eastern Alps and the summit of passion for many a mountaineer. The mountain is also home to people, numerous animals and rare plants. The Glockner is cloaked in secrecy, is the stuff of legend and has great attractive power. It is an obstacle on the path from north to south, yet a place where it has been overcome through the millennia. Join us and get to know his majesty, the Grossglockner, in his numerous aspects!

“The highest mountain in Austria”
Reviewed June 14, 2013

We saw Grossglockner first in 1988, traveling by car, stopped to reach its Viewing area but could not due to limited parking facility. But enjoyed it from various points, including from Zell AM See in 2009, when we took a short trip by van from Bad Hofgastein. Planning to take a tour again tomorrow, weather permitting.

There is no need for any praise, this place is too great!
On the back mountain road that passes through tunnels, twist among flowering meadows, forested ridges or bare besides, carved by streams, the peaks and valleys adorned with snow shade that culminates at the end of a glacier (Pasterze) in height ...

“Amazing Scenic Drive”
Reviewed October 19, 2012

Grossglockner was at the top of our list of places to visit in Austria. Grossglockner Mt. is one of the highest peaks in Austria and the Grossglockner Alpine Road is one of the best scenic road drive in Europe, it runs through the Hohe Tauern National Park from Fusch to Heiligenblut. This road opens only from beginning of May to beginning of November because during winter the road is covered in snow. Toll entry for a private car is €32 and the road opens from 5AM to 9:30PM (16th June to 15th September).

We rented a car and started in the morning from Salzburg. We took the A10 down south and at
Bischotshofen turned west towards the beautiful Zell am See. At Bruck we again turned south to
Fusch (Toll Gate at Ferleitern). The Grossglockner road starts from Ferleitern, so does the ascend. Its a breathtaking ride, 48Kms of amazing panoramic views of the Mountains, Glaciers and Meadows. The drive lets you climb to an altitude of 2504m. Along the way there are lot of View points and parking spots. Don't miss to go to Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Hohe, from where you can view the Grossglockner Mt. and one of the longest Glacier of Eastern Alp, Pasterze Glacier. On the way back we stopped at Fusch Gate, for some Souvenirs and Food (near Wildpark Ferleitern). We also included our visit to the spectacular Krimml Triple Waterfalls (also located in the Hohe Tauern National Park, hardly 60Kms from Fusch) on the same day.
