Our guide told us that Salzburg is known for these Mozart chocolates, a ball w/ marzipan & pistachio nuts and that Cafe Furst is the home of the original recipe. You can buy a knock-off version which is sold everywhere and is tasty too. But we had to buy a large box of assorted Furst chocolates which were very expensive (more than $1 per chocolate) - wow, they are absolutely delicious! We are rationing ourselves one chocolate per day and we are so glad that we got the assortment. After checking out the website, we see that they only ship to Austria & Switzerland ;-( Oh well, we will have to come back to Salzburg for more chocolates! The pastries & cakes looked yummy too but we were headed elsewhere for lunch.

The Chocolate is excellent. But for heaven sake do not self select the Chocolate Ball Delights from the Bowl on top of the counter. You will be strictly reprimanded.

Been twice as lovely place to sit and watch world go by. Good coffee and lovely choice of cakes from small 'taster' strawberry tart to larger chocolate and other variety cakes. Pleasant efficient staff. Highly recommend

We came across this cafe on accident and we really enjoyed it. Prices of cakes are ok, from around 2.5 to 3.5 euros. I recomend Mozart torte, it simply melts in your mouth! Really nice place with mostly locals, gets kind of busy arond 2- 3 o clock in the afternoon and they also have tables in front in the square, good for people watching :)

This cafe was very busy but we managed to find a table, we had sandwiches and their hot chocolate, which was the best we had in Austria. We couldn't visit the cafe and not try the original Mozart Kugel (chocolate ball) and it was surprisingly good. I'm not a fan of marzipan but they balance the chocolate, nuts and marzipan really well. We bought some to take back with us from their retail shop nearby.
Mozart chocolates are everywhere, and I tried a different one at the Vienna airport and I didn't like it at all, so you can actually taste the difference in the Furst recipe. If you're in Salzburg, don't miss this cafe.
