“Come here for authentic Austrian food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2013

We came here for a business dinner. It is a lovely building from the outside and the inside. There were groups of locals having what seemed to be their regular weekly get together catch up meals or beers, and then there were us. The food itself is all Austrian staples - Tafelspitz, Schnizels, etc. Very adequate.

“An Authentic Austrian-Salzburg Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 15, 2013

Krimpelstatter is an underrated restaurant on TripAdvisor because it is a hidden Gem. It's just a tad off of the usual tourist beat, but not really. So there are not a great many reviews of it on TripAdvisor. Let me explain.

Krimpelstatter is in Mulln, which for all intents and most purposes, is a part of Salzburg. It's not like you are going to a faraway place when you go there. It's a short inexpensive cab ride and well worth the ride to get there. My wife and I walk there along the Salzach River. It's a lovely walk and takes about 15 to 20 minutes from the center of Salzburg. And if you are smart, you will combine it with a visit to the Augustinerbrau (Beer hall and brewery) which is next door to Krimpelstatter. Many visitors to Salzburg visit the Augustinerbrau and never realize that there is this hidden gem of a restaurant right next door. In the good weather, Krimpelstatter has a courtyard with outdoor seating. I cannot think of a better way to spend some quality time in Salzburg than to have some brewskis at the Augustinerbrau and then have dinner at the Krimpelstatter (or the other way around!).

Krimpelstatter is a locals place but that's OK. It just means that you will probably need a reservation on a weekend. We had dinner there just before Christmas and it was old time authentic Austrian food of high quality. My wife had Pinzgauer Kasnocken (cheese ravioli or pasta) with potato salad and I had their Wienerschnitzel. We each had a soup...the fritattensuppe (pancake strips & vegetables in beef broth) and Knoblauchsuppe (Wild Garlic soup). All of our food was very good and reasonably priced. The interior of Krimpelstatter is Old Austria...vaulted ceilings, lots of stone and wood. It's like stepping back in time. We have also eaten here in the good weather and enjoyed the outdoor seating and garden-like ambiance.

Do yourself a favor and go to the Augustinerbrau, which is a Munich style, old fashioned beer hall, with great beer brewed by Monks for the last couple of centuries, and then have dinner at Krimpelstatter next door. It will be a true Salzburg experience.

“Great Traditional Food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2012

The restaurant was well recommended by a local resident who said we would enjoy good traditional 'cooking' in a local favorite. He was quite right.......a good choice at the end of a even better one day trip to Salzburg. In the tradition of a very famous Austrian....."we'll be back".

“traditional place with no unnecessary extras”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 1, 2011

we went for my husband's birthday dinner¨, on recommendation of a collegue who lived in Salburg for many years - and we got exactly what you expect from a traditional place in Austria: great food, although the selection was rather limited. quick service, but with the option to have a break between dishes. an old restaurant with no superflous decoration, where the guys from next door would go to have a bear after work, and a family would go on a Saturday evening to have dinner out. a typical bear-restaurant, just don't expect any special entertainment or extra folcloristic elements. it's an extremely down-to-earth place

Found this place while trying to find someplace that would take credit cards. Seemed like standard Austrian fare, no complaints if you are near by check it out and sit outside on a nice day.
