Description: The 'Gablerbrau' is the most important historical beer inn of the right-sided old town of Salzburg, completely renovated since 2013 and now in new splendor. The history of this place goes back to at least 1429. Austrian cuisine with a modern twist. Reasonable priced lunch offers varying daily from Monday to Friday. Great variety of local beers, including special sorts such as "Kaltenhausener Bernstein" from a brewery near Salzburg or the unfiltered "Gosser Zwickl". Striking interior with coloured glass paintings evoking a church-like atmosphere. In the "Wappenstube" significant woodcarvings. Popular beer garden in the newly designed Cornelius Reitsamer place with spectacular architectural accents (fountains). In addition to the time-honored part also a modern bar and restaurant area. In the basement guests appreciate the exclusive bar "L9", ideal for events with up to 120 people.

“Nice and cosy”

A short distance from the river we found Gablerbräu. Food was traditional and Austrian and the selection of beers was very good. Cosy situated and a good place for people watching.

“Salmon and oxtail stew in old town”
Reviewed August 11, 2013 via mobile

Conveniently located around the corner from our hotel. Outside seating area is nice, off the main drag. A basket of pretzels and salds to start. We then each went with one of the specials of the day: a nice broiled salmon with pilaf for my wife, and I had the best oxtail stew I have ever had in my life, a huge bowl perfectly cooked and seasoned (possibly some allspice in the gravy?) served with boiled potatoes.

“Good food and no complaints about the service”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

We had a drink in the afternoon sunshine and went back a night for a meal. Got a table outside with the help of the attentive waiter who advised us to wait as a couple had just paid. Good quality traditional Austrian food which was served very quickly.

“Simple traditional value”
Reviewed May 10, 2013

Very traditional food with a limited selection. This is the rebadged Sternbrau during their renovation but the same formula applies. Good service, local beer, hearty food and not over-priced.

“Reasonable food, slow service”
Reviewed February 5, 2013

We ate here as we were staying nearby. The food was good but not exceptional. We had the goulash with dumplings. The goulash was good but the dumplings didn't have much flavour or a nice texture. Service was ok but very slow (to order and to bring our drinks and bill). Definitely ok if you are in the area but I wouldn't go out of my way. They have an English menu.
