“Affordable and great service”
Reviewed October 13, 2012

We stayed here for 3 nights during our visit to Salzburg. The location is rural ANC quiet, although not far from the city. We had a car which made accessibility easy to downtown. Buses also run along the road Moostrasse, with easy access also.

The rooms were clean, and the hostess and her husband were very personable and helpful with directions and recommendations. Very affordable rates.

We had an awesome stay at the Haus Ballwein. I loved the breakfast as well did my husband (breads, coffee cake, yogurt plain and strawberry, granola, different assortments of cereal, nutella and jam spreads, assorment of meats, cheese, hard boiled eggs still warm from cooking them, along with coffee, tea, OJ, milk, what more could you ask for). They did give you a pretty decent sized room (my only downside was there were some markings on the wall and ceiling, but hey it was white, so it can't stay clean forever) but I never felt like it was dirty there. They did have a hair dryer to use(that was very helpful). They also have a lot of brochures to look at and have for your Salzburg exploring. Checkout time is about 10:30 and pay in CASH. I loved how the bus stop was right outside the door(bus 21). when we first arrived From the train we took a taxi into the place just so we wouldn't get lost the first time (paid about 14e) but after that I got very comfortable with the bus system and didn't need a taxi after that. Very quite and tranquil place- loved the white ducks and the overall atmosphere! Our hostess was very kind and took good care of us!

I met a lady on our stay that said she had been staying here every year for 20 years!

Room Tip: Bring your own soap to wash your hands with. Cash only at checkout. If your tall don't get an...

We absolutely loved our stay at Haus Ballwein. Brigitte was a wonderful host. The breakfast was delicious and well appointed. The rooms were clean, cheery, comfortable, quiet and an absolute retreat. 10 minutes by taxi to the center (11 Euros) or 15 minutes by bus. Even the ducks that wandered the property were happy and content. We loved Haus Ballwein.

Room Tip: If you are tall, make sure to tell them this when you are booking so they can put you in a room that...

We fell in love with Salzburg and stayed at the perfect B&B . We had a very large room with balcony and great view of the mountains. Mrs Ballwein was just lovely and always made sure we were ok and very helpful. The bus stops just outside so its a quick trip into the city. Breakfast was always lovely with plenty to eat , would stay here again if we ever go back , prices very reasonable.

So, let me start by saying that I really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It was clean, near the bus line, quiet, and the breakfast was delicious. The hostess was very friendly (we speak German, so we had no issues with communication) and answered my emails quickly when I was trying to book the rooms. We enjoyed the TV in the room and the free WiFi, also.

However, this was my first time booking a hotel in Austria. I booked a family room, because we have two children under age 12. It turns out that a family room is one queen size bed and one double sleeper sofa. Our kids (who aren't large) barely fit, and didn't sleep well - so we didn't sleep well. I wish someone had told me that it was the same price (and that we all would have paid about the same) to get TWO rooms, rather than squish us all into the family room. In addition, this room was under the roof, so while the floor space was large, the head space was not, and my husband (6'4") was severely limited as to where he could stand in both the big room and the bathroom.

So, while the property was amazing, I wish the owner had told us a little bit more about the room we were going to have, before we booked it.

Room Tip: If you are tall, specifically ask if you are in the attic. Also, we were next to the road, so it was...

After seeing Salzburg, we wouldn't stay anywhere else but here. All the hotels in town are expensive tourist traps. A short bus ride gets you to Haus Ballwein, where the price is very reasonable, the breakfast is good, and the rooms are comfortable and well kept. Mrs. Ballwein is very nice. One note to tall travelers, the ceilings and doorways are shorter than normal so watch your head.

Haus Ballwein is a beautiful b&b. Gret price, quality and the owners are the nicest people . A quiet lovely spot just minutes from Old town in Salzburg. The bus 21 stops in front of the the b&b so it is easy to get around. Clean and comfortable with a good breakfast . J&K from California.
