“Very welcoming and comfortable B&B near Salzburg”
Reviewed June 30, 2012

We stayed for three nights with Frau Ballwein. With a family of five we got a double room on the second floor and a triple room on the third floor. Both of the rooms were well appointed and comfortable. Frau Ballwein is very welcoming and went out of her way to make us feel comfortable, as well as helping us sort out our plans for visiting the area. We had the best breakfasts of our 16 day trip in Europe here, with a very large, fresh, and appetizing selection of food. The B&B is quite near a bus stop which takes you directly to the Salzburg city center. While we were on the front side of the house, try to get a room wth a mountain view on the back side of the house if you can. Thanks so much - we hope to come back again!

Would recommend for people that is visiting Salzburg, stay in a B&B out of town. I asked for a room with a balcony, facing the mountain,so the view is fantastic. However, as there is a barn right next to it, so expect some farm smell when you ask for a room facing the mountain. But is not a big problem for us, as we don't stay in the room during the day. There is a bus station right outside this place, bus 21 get you to the town within 20 minutes. Would recommend a Salzburg card, you get free entry to a lot of place.

An authentic farm/smallholding type B&B on a bus route and near to Salzburgh town centre but in a rural setting.
Frau Ballwein is welcoming and runs a really clean, comfortable and efficient establishment, she went out of her way to make us feel at home!
Breakfast was great with plenty of choice and good quality produce, Frau Ballwein was under a little pressure during our breakfast as every guest turned up at once, it might be worth 'booking a timeslot' if you are in a hurry, if not go with the flow as the food is worth lingering over.

Rooms very clean, bathroom spotless, water hot, what more could you want AND at a very attractive rate.
Reccommended!!

I had organised a motorcycle tour for a group of 4 friends, so secure parking was a requirement, this was no problem as there is ample space around the buildings to provide out of sight parking.

We visited the Augstinier beer garden in the evening this is right on the bus route, great night out, Beer & Sausages just what the vacation doctor ordered :-)

Room Tip: All rooms are fine for a short stay, good sizes, make enquiries if staying longer to get a room of y...

We wanted to stay somewhere inexpensive and we didn't know where to start. Rick Steve's actually pointed us here and I'm so glad he did!!! This has been the best experience of my life. The rooms were clean and homey and they had the most amazing views I've ever seen. It's near a bus stop that runs every half hour, which is convenient. We drank wine off our balcony while looking at the mountains and open fields. We were close enough to Salzburg, but far enough to feel completely secluded. The hostess was so accomodating and friendly. She went out of her way to make us feel at home! I have NOTHING bad to say about this place. It is a steal of a price for everything you get. I wish I could've stayed so much longer! If I'm ever back in Salzburg again I wouldn't stay ANYWHERE else!!!

Room Tip: We stayed in room #5 and the view was the best of all the rooms!!!

We felt very welcome and comfortable at the Haus Ballwein. We were given great suggestions for things to do and see in the area along with how to get there. It's a good location with an easy commute to Salzburg. The breakfast was wonderful as well.

Staying for three nights during the coldest period in the winter which could reach -19c. We have booked room with Mrs Ballwein through email confirmation. She also give good instruction on how to reach her house. If you are from Train Station take bus no.1 to Hanuschplatz station then change to bus no.21 to Gsengerweg station which Haus Ballwein is right opposite the station. Beware of the bus schedule which stated clearly on the notice board of bus station. I get Salzburg Card from Mrs Ballwein which I would say it's totally worth it if you travel more than one day in Salzburg. Bath gel and shampoo is not provided. Overall it's a good local experience as you can experience Austrian local lifestyle. Anything you need discuss with Mrs Ballwein and she will try her best o help. No restaurant beside but with bus is quite frequent, no problem at all for meal. One nice local restaurant Reiterhof Moos is just few station away

I and my sister booked a twin room in Haus Ballwein. We loved the place from the moment we stepped off the bus and saw it. It is a tradiitonal Austrian house, the rooms are extremely spacious (we even had a small kitchen in our room) and the balcony has amazing views of the Alps... Its a 10 minute ride from the city centre but if you have the Salzburg card then its very convenient and you can make as many trips as possible... Also Salzburg tends to become very crowded so we like the quiet and peace of this place after the crowds... The bus stop is right at the gate of the B&B and the bus frequency is also very good....
The hosts are extremely helpful and they also have a very good and tasty breakfast spread.... Extremely Recomended....
