This place was amazing. This was my first time experiencing Austrian beer and also the family environment while beer was being drunk. Definitely worth a visit.

Beer halls are a part of life in Austria and this one is frequented by locals too. Very busy, even in the early afternoon and a pleasure to see no yobbish behaviour. There is a small area for children but with a large crowd present you need to keep an eye on them. Food available is reasonable quality but not exceptional.

Well worth a visit for all beer drinkers out there, local beer served in traditional ceramic mugs, 1 litre, & 1/2 litre sizes served no other drinks served except pop so be warned! Bit of a trek to get there but well worth it,sit outside if you can in the beer garden, fab most locals in traditional clothing.

if you want great beer and, well how can I put it, MEAT, then you have to make this a part of your visit to Salzburg. It's on the grubbier side of town, away from all the Mozart stuff, in an Augustinian monastery by a car park. You can sit in or out and be served (at a slight extra cost) or walk in one way and buy your beer (large or medium) and then have it served in our very large jug (which you can buy for a little extra). The food is meat, meat and meat with the occasional salad and really good value compared to the Old City. We visited on a baking hot August afternoon where the atmosphere was friendly and really sociable with surprisingly few foreign voice to be heard. We are going back tomorrow!

A must

We enjoyed excellent fresh Marzen (better than any other beer we had during 3 weeks in Austria and Switzerland), a huge chunk of pork, and salted radishes. Ate in the beer hall due to a downpour. Like review by Flenser, were disappointed in the pretzel. Outstanding social interactions with Austrians who joined us at our table and could communicate with a lot of pointing, facial expressions, and drawing on paper (our German is lousy). Suggestion: If you are physically able, visit the Hohensalzburg Fortress and walk down the Monchsberg to the Braustubl for beer and a meal. On the way, you will enjoy the best views of the city and can stop at the Stadt Alm for refreshment or the Art Museum for culture. From the Braustubl, it was a pleasant walk to our room northeast of the river. This was one of our best memories of Salzburg, a city otherwise overrun with tourists.
