Great beer and a great biergarten and bier hall. Casual, inexpensive and good location and atmosphere. Little crazy on Friday and Saturday nights but otherwise not an issue.

A large very friendly 'wine bar' type place. Beautiful old building. The room we went in was the smoking room which I wouldn't have gone in by choice, but the non smoking room was absolutely full. It wasn't too smoky though. It was excellent to see so many people chatting in a fantastic atmosphere - Not one person had their mobile phone out at the table !!!!!! ( Yes you've guessed it - my pet hate about English people - they seem to be permanently attached to their mobiles !!) The room was buzzing with friendly banter Food was lovely and very reasonably priced. Large 'jugs' of ale available :D

This lively and historic beer hall is not to be missed. It's a series of large halls with long wooden tables and benches, and a marketplace of food stands in the hallways. The atmosphere feels authentic and relaxed, and the place was full of locals enjoying an end-of-the-workday beer with friends. There's also a large, tree-covered beer garden. One gets the impression the place hasn't changed much in hundreds of years.

Select your ceramic mug, rinse it out, pay for your beer and have it filled from a wooden keg.
Choose your food from an excellent choice of vendors in the "food court". Drink and dine in a large indoor hall or the beer garden.

I went here this evening 'just for a drink' and after searching the neighborhood for a 'proper dinner' we returned to Augustiner for a meal.

On the heels of a visit to Oktoberfest in Munich, this place was of little comparison, but the beer was good and the food options were plenty. It was the people we really enjoyed... a very jovial atmosphere with locals, european and american tourists. It does have an authentic feel to it... unlike the Hofbrau house where we were just a week ago.

The beer-- 3E for .50L..... 1/2 chicken and a dumpling was 9.50E.... we also tried asparagus and beet sides, as well as a shaved radish and a piece of veal. The chicken roaster was delicious... all else was what you would expect in a beer tent.

On our first pass through, we chatted with a family from Germany-- on our second pass though, we made friends with some table mates from Germany and a local couple who seemingly appreciated our terrible attempts at their language and then chuckled as their translation of our "German phrase book" brought them back to 'school days'.

In any case-- it was easy, fun, inexpensive (although our German friends said 6.50 E was too expensive for a piece of schnitzel) and I was glad we went.

It's the type of place you can go with a group of friends-- or with extended family-- or anything in between.
